Keep up the good work Harald, I'm enjoying the build.
Are you using forged pistons ?
I discovered how much boost NOT to run this year , with cast pistons (15 LB)

the engine will be running the JE forged pistons, a bit high CR, but with full electronic control of fuel and spark, and careful dyno tuning i should be safe..

the only thing i have not found any information on, is what are the limits of the rods, and what other parts of a cb550 engine/drivetraint might have problems handling a little boost.  i will not be running high boost on this to push out the last few horses, as it will never be as fast as my ducati panigale anyway :D

Probably the most knowledgeable in that area would be Brent Waller who has been campaigning a CB550 race bike for several years. He's in Ontario and races on the AHRMA events in the Northern part of the US and Ontario area. I don't think they race in Wisconsin or MN...
His 550 is pushing around 76 hp at the rear wheel...  He and MReich are very knowledgeable now about the motor and its capabilities.
He has a very reliable setup. I think you will be pushing far more through the 550 on boost and the gearbox could use some attention to backcutting and similar tricks used by many.

Looks killer, are you still working on the project?
What is the in-tank fuel pump?

still working on it, finished some more frame bracing, made the rear brake wire pull, instead of a rod, and started rebuilding the engine. its getting there, but slowly :)
the in tank pump is from a zx14r i belive, with a in tank pressure regulator and filter. so it should have plenty of fuel  :D

A neat, well executed project.  Not familiar with the capabilities of the 550 alternator. Does it have enough juice to handle the additional load of the EFI system?

Keep up the good work!

it is close to the limit, but after minimizing the current load, and using a new regulator etc i should be ok.  only real additional current load is a small load from 4 small fuel injectors, and a pump. the ignition is close to stock.

I'd really love a wiring diagram on the sensors and the microsquirt if you'd be willing to do that upon completion of the EFI system....I've been collecting parts for a couple years now to do a paulages style hybrid motor with a set of cbr600rr throttle bodies I picked up on EFI.

Yeah, some of what he said except I'd like to inject a 1030cc motor and use coil on stick electronic ignition.

because of the potential extra horsepower in this supercharged engine i wanted to beef up the swingarm a bit..
The bracing has plenty of clearance to the chain, and the lines "flow" with the rest of the bike i think. lots of extra stiffnes, without having to install a more modern looking alu swingarm that would look out of place :)

Also started on the finish for the engine.. black block and sylinders(with polished fins) all outside covers will be polished.

Waiting for a few more bits before i will finish assembly of the engine, and paint the frame and swingarm:)

i pretty much have access to a grinder, a drill, and a hand file myself :D  Things take a lot of time to make :) would love to have access to a lathe, and a milling machine++.  Thankfully i can get some help from friends for the bits that are difficult to do.

in case its of any use Harald ,

my turbo charged 400/4 ran up to 13000 rpm and 13 lbs of boost for 10k+ miles with no problems  with the connecting rods .

i then changed the design slightly and ran it at 15 psi on the dyno ,the clutch could only grip to 8500 rpm at this boost and design ,topping out at 85 bhp ,,,,power was still rising dramatically .

peak power should be around 10k with the stock 400/4 cam and the porting in the head .

regards
robert.
just do it .

excellent info regarding the rods :)
did you have any other issues related to boosting the engine, or any problems with the gearbox etc?

No problems with the gearbox , bike has done 32k miles now . the weak point appeared to be the pistons , but this may simply be i was running it too lean for prolonged boost . one thing i never did ,was open up the top ring gaps on the stock pistons so they could expand more and not butt up .the yosh big bore kit i have on it now has much thicker rings ,and they have been totally reliable . i don't know if they have big gaps on them .
just do it .

top of the piston caved in ?

a big advantage of my build compared to a lot of older supercharged or turbocharged bikes ive seen, is full control over ignition and fuel. we have done this many times before of other engines with good results, but this is my first bike build :D
Also, i dont plan on pushing the limits :) if i want to go really fast i have a ducati panigale too :D
