A face only a sohc4 owner could love
« on: December 26, 2015, 04:23:56 AM »
This is Rosie a English Bulldog. We think she is about a year old. My oldest son found her abandoned on his grading jobsite. Some people are just heartless. But at least they left some food and water and a blanket for her to lay on he said.  He couldn't keep her so my youngest son adopted her. Built like a fire plug and all muscle. Now he's got a black lab and a bulldog. Talk about a odd couple and a motley crew these two sure are.

I agree, people are heartless sometimes....  >:( But, it's great that your son has adopted the little gal. I'm sure she'll have a great home, now.  :D

I'm always surprised to hear of abandoned English Bullies, though it is not very often, considering how expensive they are.  I'm a Bulldogger myself, my baby girl Betsy just turned two years old.
Glad Rosie found a new home.  She's a very good looking girl.
Please suggest your son take her to the vet for a good going over.  Bullies have a few health risks not common to other dogs, due to their shape and the breeding needed to get it like it is.  Perhaps a health issue caused the former owners to abandon her, though there are so many better/kinder ways to pass a dog off than that.

If your son has any questions about Bully care or what to expect from them in terms of behavior, I'm happy to help, just let me know.  They've been in my family longer than me (so >43 years).

As to their faces, well, I think it's ALL other dogs that look odd, never my Bullies.

Alex

Thanks Alex ;) I  told my son that you knew a lot about the bulldog breed and was more than happy to help him with any questions, etc. that he might have. Betsy is a good looking bulldog to and looks very happy ;D My son says Rosie by what he has read on different sites by her color is considered a blue bulldog and is rare color. Is this true.

I volunteer at the local animal shelter every week. You would be surprised at how many very nice dogs we get in here that are abandoned. It is so nice of your son to take Rosie in. She looks so happy and content and will give him back the unconditional love only a pet can give in return. Tell him thank you from the Oshkosh Humane Society. He very likely saved her. We got our 2 girls (Hannah and Kelly) from our local shelter.

Hey Johnie. That's great you give your time at the local shelter. Here in Greensboro NC we had a big scandal recently at the local animal shelter of abuse and neglect and the city had to come in a clean house of a lot of sorry people.Your 2 dogs are irish setters aren't they. It didn't take me long to get attached to Rosie. She as a personality all her on. Just loves to ride in my sons truck with Mess the black lab. It's a shame someone dumped her off like that. Just don't understand that. But she has a good home now. Going to take Alex advice and get her a check up and make sure she is ok. The area my son Jeff found her in is near a military base so we're thinking maybe someone was getting deployed and couldn't find anyone to keep the dog so they did what they did. But who knows for sure what was the reason. Your right don't know how long she would of lasted at the pound :( One last thing though Johnie, how did such a ugly mug like you end up with such a pretty lady for a wife. Haha   ;D

Hall...regarding my wife, you are a funny guy ;D But I was wondering the same thing....LOL
My dogs are both retrievers. We do not get many of those in the shelter, but when we do the volunteers get first choice which is really nice. They appreciate the time we give to the dogs here. We are a no kill shelter which is really great. It is fun to see the animals get adopted out too. We have a good relationship with the adoptive families and get reports and pics from them on the dog and cats they adopt. They even bring the pet in to visit us. It is a rewarding time helping out these animals.

English bullies are such great dogs. Happy and affectionate and actually pretty athletic. He needs to keep in mind though that she isn't like his lab. That pushed in face causes breathing issues and they can overheat badly in the hot summer months. So long walks in the heat need to include rest stops and bring water and a collapsible dish for her to drink from.

I've never hear of a Blue Bulldog, but either way she is a sweetheart.  I second the note about being careful about overheating.  Bullies are very prone.  They need a cool place to hang out in summer, and cannot be allowed outside overly long in summer either.  There are always exceptions.  My first bully had very bad arthritis, he loved sunbathing as much as an old man loves it.  Helps the joints.  I had to shoo him inside regularly, but allowed him sun-therapy.
Deployment surrenders are somewhat common, yes.  Your logic is probably accurate.  Sorry they didn't bother to take her somewhere, but some people are like that.  Perhaps the spouse simply lost track of the dog while trying to corral several kids alone for the first time.  It happens.

Again, if your boy would like to ask any questions about Bullies, I'm happy to help.
