Well, now that the bike is back together and I feel better about having good tires on it, I've been riding a bit more.  The bike feels much better with the new tires.

A few things I have noticed:
- I need new steering head bearings (Allballs)
-My brakes need some definite improvement (Possible dual disk conversion?/new pads/bleed system/new fluid)
-It feels so sluggish. The bike seems to struggle to stay at 60MPH. (Going to pull carbs and go through them when doing front end/carb synch)
-If I feel up to the challenge, take apart and clean my tach.

So, that will be round 2 of mods.  Now time to get some research done!

Just a quick update:

I was fighting some battery issues, but I believe it has been taken care of for now.

I ordered new grips, clubman bars, and all balls bearings.  When these come in I will strip down the front end, install the new stuff, and clean/sync my carbs.

Any tips/tricks with the all balls stuff? I know there are quite a few threads on here, just need to start reading up.

Pulled the carbs off tonight.  My bike was feeling down on power ever since I got it. I always just assumed the carbs were gummed up real bad.

Anyone notice anything missing? (sorry for the terrible quality)  That is the pilot jet correct?

The bowls really aren't that dirty...

Thoughts?

You get it back together? How's it running now?
If it still seems low on power, do a compression check.

I got the idle mixture screw in, just need to sync the carbs.  Work has been putting it too me lately but hope to have it ready to go this weekend.

I still need to find some steering bearings though.

Its been a while since I updated, again.

For Christmas my wife gave me 4-1 Mac for the bike and I finally got a chance to put it on.  I lost some weight in the process.

Next, I will install clubmans, grips, bar end mirrors, all balls steering head bearings, and a blade style fuse box.

So I have a feeling this isn't suppose to come out inside my tach cable...

So, I need a new one of these: (tach drive?)

Anyone know where I can get one?

I need one of those and a new horn now.  Hopefully I can get both of these things soon, we are having some cool weather!

Anybody know the correct name of that part in the second photo? The tachometer drive cover is what I've been calling it but I can't find it on eBay. I need one for my 1978 Honda CB550K

cheers,
Nick

I think the parts fish calls it a Tachometer Cap.

I think you could search using cover, cap, housing -- but there are none on eBay currently (I searched).  You might do better buying from someone like Bill Benton who has collected parts from these bikes.  I'm not sure, but I think Bill focuses on 750 parts.

Look through the For Sale classifieds here, too.

The bit in your palm looks like the end of this:

the tachometer gear. Why do you want the cap?
