Cam Tower Studs - how tight to seat
« on: February 06, 2016, 02:11:38 PM »
74 CB750k4.  i'm about to put the cam tower studs in and I cannot recall what I was told on how tightly to seat the cam tower studs into the head. Nuts were 70" lbs i think. And since those open up to the to the outside what kind of thread sealant is recommended. thanks

The studs have different length threads, I forget exactly but I believe the longer threaded end goes on top. The other end goes into the head and you just seat it snug. If you do not use a high temp thread sealant, its almost guaranteed to leak. Permatex's High Temp thread sealer works well. If you haven't already, review this thread again to make sure nothing was missed/overlooked.

I used ARP thread sealant, and no leaks.
I think I set mine in at 8ftlbs.

I've used hylomar, worked good, no leaks.

Latest rebuild I've used permatex, haven't run it yet so wouldn't know but seems to be up to the job...
