question about rebuilding calipers / mounting brackets
« on: February 12, 2016, 09:24:40 AM »
I'm going to be rebuilding my '77 750F brakes this weekend. I have the rebuild kits and all that, just a quick question:

In the below image, do I need to put any kind of lubrication (grease or brake fluid) on parts 16 and 17? They are the shafts where the caliper slides back and fourth on the mounting bracket.

The brake fluid I have is Honda  DOT4

Yes a thin smear of grease won't hurt. The pins can seize up. I just use LM grease on mine.

Most auto parts stores have small packets of "brake grease" that they offer when you buy brake pads. I picked up one for $1 and it was more than enough for the slide pins when I did my calipers.

Yes brake grease is important if you are changing caliper or master cylinder seals as some greases will degrade the rubber. However in this application the only rubber that may come into contact is the dust seals and this does not affect the braking, so type of grease is not that critical - just don't use abrasive stuff.
