And I found a tank! Has a cap, badges and is reportedly dent-free. Basic black, so it won't look weird until I get paint sorted.

Wasn't free, but the price was okay compared to what I've been seeing.

Mark's book arrived today! Opened it up to a random page that just happened to be where he discusses suspension. Really like what I'm seeing so far, very clear and informative. Gratifying to know that my choice of front tire sizing was right in line with what he recommends. Might have to takes me a bubble bath with me rubber ducky tonight and catch up on some reading.  ;D

Anyone know of a good place to buy some filter foam for the breadbox? Preferably something that'll take some oiling. Between the new carb rubbers that I picked up, the ones for the pods on the bike, and the 3 of four that came with the air filter, I'm hopeful something will work.

I'm thinking 3m tape for the filter foam edges to hold it on, possibly multiple layers depending on density, thickness and results. Then, if it's not working out, duct tape sections between the layers to create more dead air volume and basically turn it into a shinier, tinier airbox. And if all else fails, I'll just scrounge an airbox from somewhere. Be nice to get it to work decently though, always wanted one of these.

uni filter foam, comes in a big enough sheet to make an airfilter.

Thank you Sir.

Just finalized the details for the seat I'm ordering. Was a little leery of using someone I didn't know, but several of the Do The Ton guys have used him and been happy with the results and he's providing the seat pan as well. Not to mention the specific design I asked for. We shall see...  ;D

On to my next round of joy, lights!

Gotta admit, I really hadn't been paying too much attention to this yet. Saw some cool stuff and was just going to pick it up. Unfortunately, the signals I wanted turned out to be one wire single filament. Not very conducive to running lights up front. Then I took a closer look at the tail light that I had in mind, apparently the lens on that thing was only 1 5/8", not gonna cut it. None of them were DOT, either. Which, from what I've been seeing in the papers lately, would definitely get me hassled by pretty much every bored cop from here to Calgary. Also, the two rectangular "headlights" I was going to use are only single wire marker lights.

Well crap.

I had forgotten the joys of trying to find halfway decent aftermarket DOT lighting. Can't say that the idea of replacing the busted up lights on my bike with OEM really thrills my socks off. Thinking this time around I'll just try to find something from another make or model. Anyone got any favorite street legal tail or signal lights from whatever rides got your attention through the years? I'll be running a bobbed rear fender.

I did pick up a stock headlight that I can probably just put an H4 into, but I'd really like to figure out the dual rectangular headlight in a street legal fashion. Failing that, I'll run the modified stocker and maybe a yellow foglight as well, once I translate the MVSA into English. Oh, and any wonderful ideas regarding reflectors for the side and rear will be met with middling to warm enthusiasm as well.

Well there we go then, SAE tail light sorted! From a 1968 -1970 BSA  A-65, if ebay is to be believed. Don't know if it's working, don't really care, it's awesome. Even got the gasket and plate mount. Plastics are intact as well. Any potential issues can be fixed.

I actually like this one better than the one I had in mind. Now to sort out some running/signal lights!

I know, right?!! Lmao

Bit of an old school sci fi freak. Took one look at them and the theme song to Flash Gordon started blasting in my head. Had to be done!

Not sure if I want to powdercoat it Satin Black, just powdercoat a Satin Clear over the existing look, polish it or chrome it. Nice to have choices.  ;D

Cool news! Just got an email on FB. I had forgotten, but this dude was auctioning off some NOS Hondaline case guards for a 79-81 CB750. I threw in a bid and it turns out I was the winner. Don't know if they'll fit, but if not I can always use them down the road.

In other news, the best deal I could dig up for a chain turned out to be a DID 120 link Oring. In gold! I was actually wanting nickel, but the price was right. Oh well, Mr. T it is! lmao

I'll be picking up sprockets as well, 18/48 for now, I'll probably pick up a 17 down the road after I decide how I like the gearing.

Good to know. I think I'm going to put a Scottoiler on this thing. Curious to see how they work.

Would you know if those case guards will fit the '72 frame?

Well I'm committed now, just pulled the trigger on a 361mm set of Koni 7610-1413's, chrome bodies with black springs. Was going to go for the Hagon 2810's, but the ability to rebuild the Koni's just screamed at the cheapskate in me.

Hope it works out, if not, I should have no trouble flipping them.  ;D

I take it the Konis are used?  They got bought out a few years ago and are now known as Ikon.

I'm aware  ;D

Yup, used but rebuildable if needed, and the price was right. Kinda cool to have actual Koni's, not Ikons. They need some minor scratches buffed out around the mounts, but I can live with that.

Well, got some good news. Been exchanging emails and phone calls with the Chief Engineer and the US distributor for Ikon. They do indeed have parts for the Koni 7610's.

They are being most helpful regarding information and advice regarding my application and mods to the shocks, down to hints on how to fab up my own tools. Some of the best customer service I've ever had. Especially seeing as how I'm asking them questions about the previous iteration of the product. They flat out told me that there was no reason to buy new ones as the old ones can be refurbished to suit.

Got my last package from Hondaman after one of the neighbours across the street fished it out of their yard where the postman had apparently dropped it. Hope that was the only thing he lost. Ordered in a Koso gauge from Amazon the other day as well.

Looking like the two bugbears on this build will be getting the front end and overall suspension where I want it. Have done a lot of research, asked a lot of questions from some very knowledgeable folks, and have made some plans. Should be an interesting process. Actually pretty excited to see it all come together.  I'm aiming to have this project "finished" by May 1st. Don't see how that's humanly possible, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways.  ;D

Yeah, I'm hoping they'll do the trick  ;D

Well, enough bits should have arrived by the end of next week to let me start making some pretty quick progress, (knock on wood) which means it's time to start scouting places to do some powder coating and lay down some rootbeer flake on the tank and headlight bucket.

I talked to one local shop and the color choices that they directed me to online were pretty crappy. Saw a recommendation for another outfit here in town on FB, but when I checked out their page, the pics were for #$%* and they could barely string together a proper sentence. I don't need an English major, but I'm not about to trust somebody with my parts and a bunch of my money if they can't use words of up to five letters without sounding like they've taken a recent head injury. If you're too lazy or incompetent to spellcheck on a business listing, I'm sure not going to have faith in your attention span or ability to perform decent prep and paint. The pictures that some folks choose to represent their businesses make me just shake my head, too. They should at least make sure that the work looks good in the photos.

I'm not looking for anything crazy, a straight rootbeer flake on two pieces for paint. For the powdercoat I'd like to find someone that can shoot some of the Prismatic Powders line: http://www.prismaticpowders.com/Canada/?gclid=Cj0KEQjw5Z63BRCLqqLtpc6dk7gBEiQA0OuhsGFrRwPzZPgBUHid5RAa835e_dl-bwZVETdE6L1r0nUaAmnT8P8HAQ

If anyone has a line on a good shop in or near Victoria BC, I'd appreciate it. I'm willing to travel, or ship, within reason for a good job. So within the Lower Mainland or on Vancouver Island will do in a pinch. I did see some posts on FB by an outfit in Nanaimo, that had recently reproduced a stock orange paint scheme for a vintage CB750, so I'll be trying to look them up if I can track down their contact info.

Life's about to get fun again, here comes the wrenching!  ;D

Are you using an aftermarket headlight bucket?

I just picked up some parts from my powder guy today, nothin like fresh powder!
He quoted me $80 to blast and powder my current project, a K3. He's out in the boonies and the place is a dump, but the quality and price are very good.
