Camshaft problems??
« on: February 21, 2016, 11:11:45 AM »
Hi guys, i have just put my motor back in the frame again after changing valveseals and pistons this winter. Now it wont start, i have spark on the plugs, valve clearance is perfect, the static ignition is spot on.
Can i somehow put the camshaft wrong?? I even tried to get it running on starter spray without result but now im starting to get a little desperat. I wish a could lift the valve cover so much so i can see the camshaftmarkings but i guess thats impossible??
Is there free play between pistons and valves if the cam is mounted wrong?
The engine is a cb750 k6 with standard cam, 836cc pistons.

If engine is turned around without any valves hitting, it must be OK. (No plugs in when rotating will make it easier)

Sure you have spark when needed? Easy to swap yellow and blue from points to coils.
Fuel flows as it should do to all carbs?  Open gas cap just for sure when the cap can be clogged, no fuel flow then....

A thought i had is to buy new sparkplugs, they work in free space so to say but i will put a new set of plugs in, then i will take off the carbs again and check them once more.

Make sure the spark plug fires at compression.

NGK D8EA will always work.  Caps NGK 5kohm, 2 straight, 2 90'
I have tried Bosch Silver, Irridium plugs. Std beats them all in my engine. Irridium might work when racing

If you're wondering if it's messed up, check compression. A flooded engine can be a bear to start. I've left the plugs out for a day, in the shop covered with a towel of course.

My buddy re ringed his 75 750f about a year ago and could not get it cranked so he called me up to help out, turns out he had so much assembly lube on the pistons and cylinders it wouldnt fire so we pulled the plugs out and spun it over to blow it all out then it busted off
