4-1 Exhaust on the CB 500 Four
« on: March 01, 2016, 06:40:27 AM »
Hi Folks - this is my first entry here, i am from Austria (Europe  ;) ) and the guys over here couldn't help me with this topic, so i thought i talk to you here.

I installed the original 4-1 Exhaust from the CB 550F on my 500 Four - also installed the right lever and the longer shaft.

The thing is, the 550 had a longer guidance (or pipie, don't know how you call it) for the brake shaft, and i want to know if there are any possibilitys for me to get this done on the 500 FOur...

I thought about welding a piece (shell) on the guidance, or distant it any other way, or find another lever that is bent enough to fit with the old (short) shaft.

What do you think? Has any one of you ever done this Conversion?

Thanks for help!

Daniel

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but if you are saying the shaft for the brake lever is too long, you may be able to get away with cutting a small piece of the same diameter as the mount and shimming the inside (wheel) side. You've obviously got to be careful for clearance of the tire, but I've done something similar on a 400F engine to 350F frame conversion, with the 400F peg and lever set up. Hope this makes sense.

Hey thanks for your answer..

Yeah, maybe i didn't described my problem properly..

The thing is, i need the long shaft because otherwise the lever would touch the exhaust, but the long shaft doesn't run good because the guidance from the frame is too short for the shaft. The shaft has to much axial clearance (do you understand what i mean?)

I can either make the pipe longer (guidance? don't know the right word - the pipe on the frame, where the shaft runs) or use a break lever that is bend enough to not touch the exhaust.

Hey thanks for your reply.

The F Pedal is different, i have the K lever at home it won't fit for the original 4in1 (it runs on the right side of the frame and not under the engine)

The problem is the long shaft i need for this exhaust..

I think I get it -- you have too much play on the outside of the mount (tube or guidance). If this is the case, you can cut a piece of pipe and instead of putting it on the inside of the mount, put it on the outside. Does this make sense?

or take a lathe and turn a tube to a longer piece and weld it on the other tube.
or...better cut the vhole old piece aut and make a new vith a bronze bushing and grease nippel  to perform perfekt..a bit like the one i made to my cbx..it vas weared aut...it vas a part of the food rest..so no tube to weld on
