This guy Jim that did my fuel tank, 'Moyer's Fuel Tank Renu'  gas-tank.com here in Greensburg,PA. is looking for a little 4-stroke dirt bike for his 10 yr. old son. He let his son try sitting on his Boss's son's little 03' XR70R while it was sitting in the shop last week and it's the right size w/ about a 26" seat height. Jim helps me out sandblasting stuff for me occasionally and telling me where to find different other sub-contractors for some jobs I've been trying to get done on cycle work.
He wants to buy  a little bike that he can let his son try-out to see if he wants to keep riding.. I don't think Jim cares if it's a Honda,Yam,Kaw. or Suz. but he wants to find around a 50-80cc little bike w/ a 4-stroke(or 2 stroke like a PW80,etc.) and auto clutch w/ foot shifter.I haven't been working on many real small kids bikes lately and needed some ideas from you as to different used bikes I could hunt-down for Jim.Do you have any ideas ?

Jim's son just barely fits w/ almost flat feet on the 03' XR70,and Jim is still learning M/C mechanics.
That little bike has a 26" seat height, his son is still growing but not sure if he wants him to have anything w/ a clutch;the boy is too big for a Z50 though.

I bought an XR70 for my daughter several years ago.  It was a 3 speed automatic - no clutch. Perfect beginner bike.

unfortunately, she just was not into it and I sold it. She loves bikes, but the expensive carbon fibered non-motorized types! (She has two)

Your daughter is a Bicyclist Stev-o,they will keep her much 'healthier' than a motorcycle,I need to get back on mine..
Jim at Moyer's is looking for a cheap little bike that he can teach his son how to ride on while they both learn how to fix it  :) together. I'm thinking 'old school' Z50/CT70 small bikes but now those things are serious vintage 'Classic's from the past that many different folks love.I don't know much about the Kaw,Yam or suz. small bikes that are kind of similar to the Z50/CT70's.Jim was telling me he wants a true 'fixer upper' possibly a partially disassembled one/basket.. He tells me he wants to try to find one for around $600  ::)  I hate to tell him that will only buy a worn-out 'china bike' beater but thought I'd keep trying to research what make/model small old Jap. bike i can find him and his son. he's 6'5"  280lbs. roughly so there's no chance of him ever test riding  :D (unless he gets one for each foot!) it either. He has a Yamaha XT350 and enjoys it.

Disagree, it's against my better judgement to buy China crap.  Yes, it's cheap, but if you have to replace it over and over, it ends up costing more.   Buy quality!

I'm thinking strynboen is continually fixing/'mopping-up' after those little china-bombs and it's helping him work together better to possibly 'Bond' with his children. How much is your time worth?  :D

Lessons can be taught working on a Honda, but would be more focused on proper maint and cleaning.

The china-clones 'look' like quality but will never add up to a true, reliable Japanese machine.

you can not put a china bike against a Honda/Japan bike..
.china parts is not hardnet and steel kvality is krazy bad.....somthing is too soft other is over hardnet so it brake like glass ..spec geardrums have big problems..crankshafts is also braking in pieses....castings is bad full of airholes and pores..just bad..

i never pay serios Money for this crap..only as learning fixing/  fun bikes they have a small to non value...i never vant a china road bike...if  i need a low cost bike..i go for a East german MZ 2 stroke solid bike
