Very cool set of tools.  Not sure how that two piece carb tool is working...looks like the internal part is a tapered fitting. or is it a tapered screw driver...similar to a really long valve/tappet adjuster setup...

Slotted screwdriver to fit the head of the screw. It is like a long, thin blade screwdriver inside a very long socket. the tool only works on a couple models but more than paid for itself "back in the day" as I was a flat rate mechanic.  Most special tools were purchased to save the time trying to find the shop tool.  I even bought a Snap On screwdriver of a similar design to sync carbs on the V4's.

DrATV.com has a set of Honda Wing decals for one of the small bikes that was a Red White and Blue wing with chrome silver outline... Might look nice on the tanks if that would suit how you are finishing it.
Just a thought.

Could blow your budget at $16 ish and shipping...

Thanks for the link David that could work if I go the jacket scheme route but at 16$ it could blow the budget to smithereens.

Ordered air filter and missing retainer spring from DSS. Budget up to 740, then found a caliper on eBay for 60-so budget jumped to 800.  Battery, chain and tune up stuff to buy. Motor next in line...Larry

Found a new old stock sleeve on Feebay yesterday for 50 with shipping.  Up to 850-looks as though 1K is unrealistic but I should get close unless something drastic pops up(like a bike falling off the lift :-[ :-[).

Well, the NOS sleeve came the other day :(. Not for a 400f, most likely a 350f as the bore is 49mm. Plus the overall diameter is too large to fit in a 400f cylinder.  Couple photos, plus the edge is chipped

After 4 calipers I finally got the brake system in order.  Caliper that came with the bike had a broken easy out in it, caliper I had in a parts bin was the wrong size, third caliper from a friend I lost :-[.   Last but not least is a caliper I got from Ebay.  I rebuilt all off them save for the one with the broken easy out. Found a seller on ebay making very nice stainless steel repops- wish Kevin was still selling the phenolic pistons...Larry

Should have used a bit of JB Weld on the pistons, right? ::)

Happy 4th Larry  :) I'm glad you sorted that caliper/s thing out.. Did you finally find a decent caliper piston to use or JB it ?

JB was a joke, new stainless piston at 34 plus 6 to ship brings cost up to 890. But 50 will be deducted for return of sleeve so budget stands at 850. On another note....the r/h switch that looked so good.    Well......................upon further inspection it is shot-the entire inner switch is falling apart, which is quite typical of the old plastic.  Back to the drawing board for a  switch....Larry

Do the CB550 switches look the same?  DSS has repop parts...worth a look poking about.  That really bites on the cylinder liner.  This bike is fighting you as bad as the previous, if not a whole lot worse...

Glad you are keeping costs under control rather than running wild...

I've bought  repop switches in the past-anywhere from 80 to 100.  I may buy the old style with on/off and rewire the bike-I've done that on a couple other 400's.  Just checked 4 into 1 has a switch for 47 with free shipping         http://www.ebay.com/itm/Throttle-Right-Switch-Assembly-35130-404-671-Honda-CB550K-CB750-1977-1978-/182083645535?fits=Make%3AHonda&hash=item2a6507f05f:g:GG8AAOSwgApXBZx1&vxp=mtr  . Just need to change the connectors....Larry

Fighting me? This bike was a POS and should have been either parted out or scrapped.  On a more positive note the muffler and speedo bracket should be here this week to finish the Pink Ver. 8.0....Larry

Bought a set of cylinders off ebay, hopefully one liner will be usable and I can start reassembling motor... Should be here in a couple days.  Fingers crossed.  In the meantime I'm thinking of buying a Concours- 1994 with a shade over 4k for 3500 plus shipping from NC...Larry

Ever since I saw Nick Phillips, a fellow mechanic at Montgomeryville Cycle Center, finish one of the first Iron Butt Rallys on a Concours I've wanted one.  This 1994 seems to be priced a bit high but the mileage is low and maintenance is high.  And...................I'm at a state of financial stability where I can afford it (and 8 other  bikes if I chose to keep them that is). The 89 Ninja 600 is really a fun bike so but it together with my 93 Ninja and 94 Concours if I get it and I've become KAWIMAN.  Funny though, in the past I was about as anti-Kawi as anyone.  Fast, foul handling motorcycles is my recollection of every Kawi made in the 60's and 70's...Larry

Concourse is kinda buzzy. Stonkin' motor for its day though. I see ST1100s go for stupid cheap money and they are pretty bombproof (except for the charging system). Don't go to the dark side just yet! :-).

Done deal Nils, just committed to buy.  I was thinking of an ST1100 but this Concours only has 4K and has been completely serviced.

Delight in the fact that you can WAX anybody on an ST1100 now :-).

Enjoy Larry!

I was thinking of doing that- I could even visit Matt(sold you my 750 Steve) but I found a shipper willing to bring it up for 240.  Plus, it'd be hard to get days off in a row from that fine home supply business I work for(sarcasm intended)...Larry

Yeah  :)

$240 is cheap, you couldn't do it for that (flight, fuel, beer!)

Just heard from Matt yesterday, he's in SC and bought a Yammie Bolt 950 to mod to a scrambler!

Yea, I saw the Yammie.  I think the mod to scrambler might be beyond his budget.  You're right, there is no way I could do that trip for 240.  Maybe I'll take some time when I get the Concours and visit Matt, Megan and Vanora. Maybe stop by any other forum members who live between Philly and SC...Only 4K on the bike, so I have lots of miles to go...Larry

Kawiman(Larry  :)),
I think the ZG1000 Concours is MUCH lighter on it's wheels and shorter(better handling & almost 'flick-able')for Sport Touring than the ST1100 Honda.I think more like a 1000 Ninja in a Touring package.I think you can use a few rubber grommets in a couple places to take away any 'buzziness' from the fairing bit's.
Nice looking bike Larry  8) Do you have any long distance tours planned across the USA after you retire from the Home Improvement job ?

Doubt I will fully retire  Bill.   I've watched  too many men die 5 years after they retire. In my case though, I have bikes and still parts of the house to fix.  The cylinders for Ver. 8 came today.  No chance to open because I am due at work in an hour.  If I go to SC I'll go the western PA route...Larry
