1978 CB550 hoop
« on: May 20, 2016, 08:34:21 AM »
I am about to weld in the rear hoop for my seat.  Does anyone have any picts or suggestions as to where to cut the rear of the bike.  There appears to be somewhat of a crimp in the frame shortly after the rear shocks.  That looks like a natural spot to cut it but I would like some input because there is no going back once it is cut.
Thanks

Cut it so it fits your seat pan.
If you pan length is TBD, ask the maker of the hoop if they have any suggestions.

I bought the hoop and seat from harisuluv here on the forum.  The hoop itself appears like it is going to need to be trimmed as well.  The portion of the frame that it will be welded to is not round.  I am just looking for ideas before I cut.  Thanks for the response.

Yes, you cut off at a point past the shock mounts, how far past is based on your seat pan length and the length of the hoop.

If you head over to the Project board there are 100+ threads on cafe builds with pictures of where the owner cut the frame.
