First Timer's CB500 Build
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:39:28 AM »
Hello all and welcome to this adventure of a project. This is my second bike and first serious project on two wheels. The story goes that I found this bike on Craigslist for $3000. I didn't have $3000 for a bike at the time but I figured I would open dialogue with the seller and long story short I ended up with the bike delivered to my house for $500. Woohoo! I've got a vlog with a little more detail about the bike here:

After a couple weeks of collecting parts and working on the bike here and there, I was able to rebuild the front brake, rebuild the carbs, and I was able to start the engine for the first time. Just hearing the engine fire felt like a great accomplishment considering the fact that the bike didn't run when I received it. It was not running very well but it was spinning under it's own power. Here's a video of that:

This next video is where I am currently. The bike is a little more sorted, the engine sounds much healthier and feels responsive but I haven't had a chance to really test and tune since it has been raining for a week straight so far. Come on, mother nature, I just want to ride.

The end goal is to get the bike road worthy and just ride it, that's all. As soon as tires, chain, sprockets, and the triple tree top gets here I should be mobile and can shift focus on the aesthetics of the bike and just clean off the years of neglect.

Well that's a bummer. It displayed correctly when I created the post and the black box place holders are still using Adobe Flash Player so something weird must be going on. Huh...

It's working fine now.  Good clips.  You made excellent progress!  Great deal on the bike.  That paint looks like a keeper!

Glad you are getting rid of the lowering kit and putting stock (more or less) length shocks in.  That will improve handling.
