Rickman thread
« on: August 12, 2016, 10:10:30 PM »
Gday, how's it going

I've been working on my Rickman for a few years now and hardly been worth posting about.

I'm getting closer to finish but not too fussed when it happens.

Who else is working on a Rickman or owns one. It might be good to know what you guys are doing or what I've done.

I couldn't do a project thread just with my bike, so what are you doing?

I met a bloke on the CB1100 web site who is doing one and I remember a couple here too.

Have a good one
Scott

Great looking bit of kit you have there. Looks like the dual disc Betor forks. I like the earlier wire wheel kits myself. I was very fortunate to come into most of a kit minus frame and body recently and will be adding a custom frame along with the full body kit I already have on hand.

Yours looks really close to complete. Looking forward to more pics and progress.

Some beautiful parts on the bike.  It looks like you are close to finishing.  There are a couple of Rickman builds here.  Try using the search function.

I picked the bike up years ago, maybe 5 or 6.  The bloke selling it had it advertised in the worst place to get any attention at all and had only one or two calls about it.   I contacted him and he told me he imported the kit in 1975 to use with his K2.  He lived only half hour away so I went and had a look.  It was in poor condition because he kept it in a little garden shed from 1981 onwards.  The engine was rebuilt (balanced and blue printed) only 1000km's before he let the rego run out and parked it.  The asking price was $5000 so I went away to think about it and called him a couple of days latter to have a chat,  he told me his friends said "just sell it" then he said "I will negotiate down from $3000"  I didn't know what that meant so I asked what price he really wanted to feel that he was happy with the sale as I don't want to be rude and offend you.  $2500 was his response,  so I asked if he was sure that was cool,  jumped in the car with the trailer and had it loaded up within the hour.

Yeah, what's wrong with the orange one?

The orange tank is 40 odd year old fiberglass and the inside looks like it's delaminating or lifting a bit.  Also I don't like the idea of painting over the old body work because then it's not original anymore.  So I ordered all new fiberglass and I will keep the original stuff on the shelf along with other parts I have changed for new stuff

No interest in selling it? It would work a treat on my race bike.

No thanks.  I'll keep everything that came on the bike to sell with the bike when the day comes
