I'm looking for TACH recommendations to fit on my Classic Bonneville Racer ................electronic with sweep-dial vs mechanical .............smallish........about 3-inch diameter. Shift-lights or adjustable red-lines are secondary to an accurate indicator.

I've tried original units and cheap digital with failures when it counted.

These take the RPM signal directly from the coil, so they will be very accurate if installed properly. Unless your intention was to find a "sweep digital" display? Perhaps I misunderstood-

most classic racers around here use either Pitsch Kröber or Scitsu counters, they are period correct and super reliable. me, being the Dr. cheapo i am, i just recycle GSXR internals and fit them in some old Veglia housing from a guzzi or benelli

Interesting so far...................thanks, guys   I'd like to stay with a plug-wire pickup to avoid a tach-problem affecting the coils.

I have used Scitsu tachometers for many years on many bikes and have one fitted to my current CR750 replica. They pick up from the plug lead(s) and are very reliable and look period. Also their after sales (in the UK) is superb. I have used many other tachometers as well but the Scitsu's are very good and take no power from the bike.

yes the scitsu tacho's are very good , they are accurate and very light . aprilia fitted them to there production racers for years.
personally i prepare krober's , only because i think they look better !

I am sure Sam Green used one of them too. You tape it to the plug lead.

Lots of Scitsu here too. I love my Pitsch Krober, tough as a boiled owl, and the needle reads steady, great tach. It reads from coil however.

Which Scitsu unit would work on the CB750?  I'm assuming its the Blue one which fires each coil 1 time per crank revolution. Same question for the Krober? Since the Krober gets the signal from one coil is it the 1 fire per revolution version?  Any help is appreciated.

double check with the manufacturers web sites but i think it is blue for the scitsu and an LZ23 krober

Scitsu are great and used to be down the road from my old house in Sheffield! They are super helpful so tell them what you want Dennis and you'll get the right unit. They also service them if y should need it in the future like when you leave the battery plug out all winter and kill the battery....DOH!

I have contacted Scitsu in the UK............very helpful........and currently lower priced than the US distributor. I plan to have a spare battery because of the harsh-conditions of my chosen sport, as well as the limited actual use   Thanks for all of the suggestions and info
