Custom Headlight Buckets
« on: September 13, 2016, 03:42:16 PM »
Alright, I'll admit, I'm jealous of people who have ther speedometer integrated into headlight buckets.

Especially since I realized Bloo's PO, put a yamaha 7" bucket in there, and it's a tight fight, can't aim the light proper (not an issue night riding aint my favorite thing).

So I'm wondering where it would be possible to source a bucket that holds the bulb, the mess of cb550 wiring, and a speedo guage?

I already got the dummy lights from a cb550k to go on the handlebar bracket as part of the mod.

Any ideas?

Last month on Ichiban's mod of the month, someone posted how they made one. Looked great.

I couldnt find the headlight mod, but the central ground bus bar was a clever idea!

I'm seeing some cl77 buckets and scrambler parts that may fit the bill, if only I knew more of the details on them.

Then there is carpy's torpedo.

Thats pretty much want I hope to do.

Just can't expect to get much in the way of measurements from an ebay seller.

Hell, one ebay seller was such a dolt, he couldn't find the numbers stamped into a carb rack, then in his next post, he showed the same carbs with 6 of 8 float bowl studs broken off.

My faith in humanity wanes.

Benji makes one that is set up to work with the Honda headlight ears, not the best option for a thrifty individual, but appears to be well thought out.  I will post a link later today.

CEV Headlight....

Also... why not just drill a hole in your existing bucket an pop a mini tach or speedo in there? Is there not enough space with the rat's nest of wires?

Edit: I'm re-wiring my bike, and cutting a lot of things out, like indicator lights, and relocating things to the rear under my seat hump... I've been thinking about relocating my ignition switch to the headlight bucket. Similar to where a mini gauge would go. The only wires in the bucket would be to the light itself and my speedo and tach coming through. It's just a thought I've been having. I think it could look pretty slick but I have to make sure I have enough room because I'm going to run mini tach and speedo off the two eyelets on the triple tree that the original cluster bolted to. I'm not sure if there will be enough room between them to sneak my hand down to put the key in and turn it.

Skol, the cb550 super sport headlight buckets are apparently shallow-er than the 550k.  Not that I would know, a PO squeezed a yamaha bucket in between the fork ears on my 550F and it has its own issues.

Really want a torpedo headlight with a guage ala bmw. Minus the upside down and backwards guage rotation lol
