Strange Style Carb Sync Tool
« on: September 16, 2016, 08:51:10 AM »
Anyone ever see or use one of these?

A buddy of mine got an '06 Ninja and he had a friend come over to help work on it and he brought this for a carb sync tool. If it's not obvious you just put it over the mouth of the carb and read where the ball gets to on the vial.

Didn't work too well because the airbox has to be off making the idle race around and be unsteady. Every time he covers one carb with the tool the RPMs shoot up. I prefer the normal types that go on the sync ports. Just thought it was interesting.

This is designed for a bike with a single carb only. Multiple carbs need different means.

I was thinking that but what would you be syncing it to if there's just one carb? There isn't even numbers denoting inches of mercury so you can't tell if it's in spec or not.

Proper ones for bikes are gonna work a hell of a lot better. I used a mercury gauge for a long time but am damn happy with my Carbtune one now.

I've seen something like used on VW's and Corvairs.  You don't necessarily need numbers as much as marks to compare carb vacuum from one to another.  Drop it over the intake on one carb, make a mark on the glass and move over to the other carb(s) and compare, adjust accordingly.
