What do you torque your STOCK STUDS to? 1978K
« on: May 15, 2017, 10:33:13 AM »
I just did 15lbs...and that seems to line up with most books (Normal Manual and HondaMan's Book 13.7-15.2 ft-lbs)...BUT I saw in the K8/F3 manual...14.5-18.1ft-lbs Do the later bikes have stronger studs? I still have the engine out and after torquing to 15lbs (with the cheapest torque-wrench Harbor Freight has to offer) I am wondering if I should take my cam towers off and bump them up to 16.5lbs just to be safe...but if I snap a stud, I will lose my mind...AND if this leaks again I will extra lose my mind....

Thoughts?

Follow HM and the Honda manual.
If you've also done all the leak-prevention steps (puck height checked/sealed, new crush washers under acorn nuts, good mating surfaces, etc.) you shouldn't have a worry....  :-\

I torqued my OEM studs (CB750K6-76) with 28Nm (over 20Ft lbs)  several times so 18 ft lbs should not be any problem. I torque my Kibblewhite HD studs with 28Nm too...
