KO or K!?
« on: October 20, 2016, 11:43:56 PM »
I have a cb750 with manufacture date on Nov. 1970. The title reads 1971 but I received this email from someone who says it is actually a 1970 ko? I explained to him that the cut off date from a KO to a K! is October of 1970...
His reply...

"NOT WITH HONDA MOTORCYCLES MADE IN JAPAN, ONLY MADE IN THE U.S.A. YOU DO HAVE A 1970 HONDA CB750 FOUR . MANUFACTURED IN 1970 . IT IS A 1970 KO, BUT COMES WITH K1 SIDE COVER,S AND 8000 R.P.M TACKOMETER . SOME CAME WITh KO. TACKS, 8500. RPM AND OLD STILE SIDE COVERS, AND 4 CABLES TO THE CARB,S."

Is this true?

A manufacturing date of November '70 could go either way as production of the K1 should have been in process by that time.

I have a CB750 that is a titled as a '71, with a 1048xxxxx VIN and engine code.  It has the parts of a K0 such as the larger vented side covers and the 8500 tach.  Honda probably used every part they could get their hands on to meet demand, and waste not want not and all that.  It isn't quite right to say "this part was only correct on this year model" because of this bleed over.

la ca fe: what are the first four numbers of your VIN?

The year/model issue is compounded by the fact Honda wrote new titles for left over bikes. the numbers will tell us more. Also it's been 30 plus years, anything could have been changed.

Manufacture date is Nov. 1970 Frame # is 1066456 Engine # is 1066994.
I can't see a bike titled as a 1971 be a KO, doesn't make and sense to me.

I also have a '73 cb750 that has all k2 parts and I would never guess it is a K3 because It looks exactly like a K2. I can see how Honda wanted to use up their inventory from the previous year before moving forward with any new year, model, style changes.

How does this effect value of the bike, if any?

Mine is a K1 with
 - rounded sidecovers
 - 8000rpm tach redline
 - push/pull throttle cables with linkage bar
 - s/n's about 1000 higher than yours

Do you have the -300- exhaust? (original stamped on pipes)
Your seat is not K1, I think K2

A lot of states title the bikes by the year they were sold not the year they were made so its not uncommon to have a 1972 with a 1973 title for instance. The Candy Brown bike of yours is definitely  a K1 with a different chain guard and polished up nice. One thing it should have that's been replaced are red jewels in the side covers, one year only deal and the seat is from a later bike. Back shocks should have black inner body and tops also.

My bike has registration as a 1977 but built summer 1976, shipped to Europe and registrated for road a few months later. Same as for cars that were sold autumn and got model year the year after.
