Kawasaki Turbo
« on: November 06, 2016, 05:17:13 AM »
I have an opportunity to purchase this Kawasaki Turbo.  While I am waiting on more specifics from the seller can any one help me identify what bike this is?  Aftermarket turbo on a 70's Kawasaki?

Any idea of value range?  I was told the bike is super clean and fast as Hell>>>

Thanks!

Looks like it might be a Kaw 900 1974 or 1975 Z1a or Z1b with an LTD style seat by looking at the guages, wheels and a few other things. Looks like its going to be expensive.  This company made a Kaw turbo 900 and yes it was sold without a warranty  ;)  http://www.odd-bike.com/2012/12/kawasaki-z1r-tc-psycho-turbo-z.html

You know, I always knew the 900 was pretty bad and that there were others as well. An I knew that a Turbo'd Version should be hot too. But 130hp? Whoa. My '83 GPZ1100 is supposed to be capable of 120hp and I have read told that it should be able to hit 150mph. Now, the speedometer indicates 160, but, to date, I have seen 110 on it. Kinda  doubtful if I will try to get it going any faster. I have even slowed down a little, in my Charger, as I used to be able to Have a bit of fun, pushing it a bit extra, on the straights and especially through the curves, but in the past 4 years, I started getting spotted by cops with radar, at the wrong times. So, it seems like my luck is starting to run thin and I can't afford to be "Caught" too many times, Moneywise & Insurancewise, so I have reluctantly, slowed down Some. I haven't stopped "Cold Turkey" though, I have always been addicted to "Speed" (Moving Fast, in a Car or on a Motorcycle, Not The "Drug")  ;)

Take the value of the bike, add a good turbo kit for 2K ish tops.. Dragbike turbos sell cheaper all time.
Now ask the owner what he did internally to make it RELIABLE with the power increase.. Probably nothing. If he did strengthen it ask for receipts..
Use that as a bargaining tool.
I think 4-5 K if really nice is more like it..

A little late to the party, just got back from Belize.   Agree with Eric, looks to be a Z1 with a later model LTD seat [very comfy!].

I'm sure you know, Z1's are a very collectable bike and the value reflects that - when in stock configuration. I've seen the early ones go for up to $20K.

That bike looks to be very clean but the modifications would be a deduct if it is a true Z1 [only about 85,000 made]. Do you know the VIN's?

$7500 does not seem like a price if it is as clean as it looks, runs great and has paperwork.
As far as value, just like any other vintage bike, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Go check it out, looks like he has some other nice toys in the garage!

Only ridden one "Turbo Bike" and it was a Yamaha 650, if memory serves me correctly. And I wasn't really impressed by that one. Now I KNOW the Kawasaki has got to be More impressive than that Yamaha was. I Have seen the specs, in an ad in a motorcycle magazine once, that showed the Before and after specs, on a few of the major Japanesse brands and the figures (though I can't recall them) were impressive. Just wondered how much improvement on power would be, like on my Kawasaki GPZ1100? Not that I could afford to Turbo it or that I would want to. Just curious, is all.

I want to change it.
Value of the bike MINUS price of carbs airbox and pipes,
Plus the value of a good turbo kit.
