You'll get less than full engagement between the main and countershaft gears.This goes for the thrust washers and circlips as well. They have a specific side needing to be installed against the gear.
Hi DH,Can't help with your question, but grateful for the image you attached. It's the best explanation of how to install those gears that I've ever seen. I've already got it stuck up on the garage wall for when I re-assemble the next bottom end!

My gears somehow got bumped out of order while laying in the proper order for re assembly. I've been concerned about those two big end gears being installed wrong.Not sure if they have anything to do with a balky 4/5 shift and sometimes a 5/4 shift. Feels like the dogs are crashing together. doesn't jump of gear.
