two cylinder transplant
« on: January 10, 2017, 01:23:30 PM »
How difficult would it be to transplant a 72 350 two cylinder into a 73 350 four cylinder bike?

With enough money and time you can do anything you want but the question is why?

According to a thread in here some time ago, the very first 500 engine was fitted to a 450 twin frame.. so maybe not ridiculously hard?

Rather than rebuild my lower end bearing issue, maybe get a cheap donor two cylinder and install.
But looking at ebay last night, transmission parts look cheap.
I like my smooth four cylinder better anyway, so nevermind the swap.

You are likely better off rebuilding what you have vs rollin the dice on a donor motor.

Both of my "cheap donor motors" were rebuild candidates in one way or another.  I've found (slightly) bent valves and a broken piston ring, in addition to wore out rocker shaft bores.  Would they have run before teardown?  Maybe.  At least until something seized.
