Gasket time....dressing?
« on: May 09, 2017, 03:42:01 PM »
Hi Gang, got my case back together, and seems to have mated fine, perhaps to easily, maybe I got lucky, with a slim chance of me actually learning some things and doing it right. So now its time for the covers to go back on. Got a full set of KP gaskets for my 750 K6. Ive heard install dry, oiled, greased etc... Im thinking a super thin coat of permatex aviation form a gasket no 3 on each side to position and add a bit of stability, as per Dino's 73 hackaweek build...any thoughts for or against?

Oh, and I did end up finding some hondabond in time to put the case back together, thanks for the info on that stuff everybody. hope to have the engine back in by next Monday....vroom vroom

My vote is dry. Always works for me and they are much easier to remove.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

DRY! If you put sealer on the cover gaskets you can forget to remove them and and reuse same gasket. I have all gaskets dry this time, no leaks at all.
I used Permatex copperspray on a Cometic fiber head gasket before, what a leak!

I added small amount of Permatex aviation no 3 on the outer side of the oil seals on final shaft behind front sprocket and crank seal behind the ignitition. It should most likely work good without.

My K6 engine is not a virgin after all interventions. Opened the cases 6 times plus  3-4 additional head and cyl offs. Plus the side covers additional removals. Especially alternator and clutch covers. The fiber gaskes seal despite small scratches.

I used Permatex Aviation no3 between cases last time (last winter) and I have small sweat of oil at front. I'll try to clean with acetone and spray engine paint over and hope it will seal. I had waited for a while and hope for self healing. Paint it will be.
Hondabond black/blue tube (no silicone) is much better here. My tube had dried up and I used what I had.
