I got the starter reinstalled yesterday and temporary placed the oil tank and battery box in just to confirm where they went.

I also pulled both front brake calipers. As Sean predicted the cooperation ended there. I got the right caliper off no problem, but the bleeder screw simply will not move and ultimately broke. I spent a lot of time trying to drill it our, but apparently AMF made them from diamond, because even new drill bits barely cut into it.

I am going to spend one more day working on it, then I need to switch over to my old blazer to sort why the power windows stopped working so I can throw it up on Craigslist and get down to three 4 wheel vehicles from the four I own right now (plus two project motorcycles and one project scooter).

I am hoping by late Fall to be down to two well running cars and a single function motorcycle (my 550).

If the fuse is good on the PW's I bet it's the driver side door master control. Ours went out in the Honda. Only the driver window would work. Swapped in a used one and bam. All worked again.

Well, I have tested the master switch setup and it seems to be in order. GM used a breaker rather than a fuse for the windows. I tested it and it has continuity, so at this point I think the breaker is ok. Now I need to test for power and ground to the master and see how that is.

Probably just needs a new power window kit. Sometimes those cables get messed up and nothing works.

Turned out that the ground wire to the master switch on the driver's door was broken. Someone had fixed it in the past with a butt connector. I soldered in an extension and grounded it to the kick panel where it is hidden under a plastic cover.

Problem solved. Now I need to look at the passenger front, which has never worked. I suspect the issue is a bad motor on that side. If that is the case I am going to leave it for the next owner. It's a $500-$600 truck, not everything will work.

I also have a rebuilt automatic climate control panel to install in my Saab. The old panel controls the HVAC fine, but most of the LCD panel doesn't work right, a very common issue with Saabs.

I did pick up a new tool the other day to help with motorcycle projects.

Those bike lifts are fantastic Danny, I borrowed this one from Jeff at Ace Motorcycles so I could pull both wheels off and get new tires installed, I liked it so much I bought it from him! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

And I like that Saab too mate, I almost bought a 93 Turbo convertible recently for less than 2 grand on eBay, most European cars here (colloquially referred to here as "Euro Trash") have terrible reputations for unreliability, usually from suspect electronics, so are as "cheap as chips" once they're 10 years old or so.

My sister had a new Alfa Romeo GTV6 back in the late 1980's and it was a brilliant car to drive, but even though she bought it new, it spent more time in the shop than it did on the road sadly. That Chevy Blazer would be a $10K car here, anything whith a Chevrolet badge sells well in Oz. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Wow! Has that poor old Chev been pulled out of a drain Danny? I haven't seen rust like that since I took the wife's old Ford Cortina to the wrecking yard............ ;D

That's amazing mate, my 1998 Ford Explorer has probably lived outside for most of it's life, and doesn't have any rust at all. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Back to work on the scooter engine today. Pulled the head and confirmed that both the intake and exhaust valves aren't seating via acetone in the chamber. I need to borrow a valve spring tool and lap the valves (I am assuming they aren't bent). The good news is the bore looks great, as you can see from the picture the cross hatching is clearly visible.

Dropped the head off at the dealer yesterday to have them remove the valves for me. Got a voicemail this morning letting me know that both are bent and that they recommend new valves, seals, and cutting the seats. I need to call and see about the cost, but the valves would set me back about $50, so I am guessing a couple hundred when all is said and done.

So, finally I have some updates on this one. I ordered a new head, valves, rocker shafts (damaged one taking the old head apart) and head gasket. $227 shipped, how about that for cheap.

It should arrive next week and I am going to try and put it back together a week from Sunday and see if it will start.

Progress on these projects.

I replaced the head on the scooter a couple weeks ago and got it to start. But the carb butterfly was stuck, so I couldn't give it any throttle. I ran out of time that day so back in the storage garage it went.

Yesterday I pulled it out again, removed the carb and have it a good spray with carb cleaner and worked the butterfly open and closed a few times until it opened and closed smoothly. Reinstalled the carb and hooked up all the tubes (there are at least 5 different hoses attached to the carb and manifold. Emissions control, what fun). Once hit the started and it fired right up. Some additional fiddling and it idles beautifully and I was able to take it for a ride around the block. The first time it's run and been ridden since 2009.

What an odd riding experience, from the position with your feet in front of you on the floorboards to the kind of twitchy steering from the tiny front tire. It's fairly quick though. Decent off the line acceleration for the first 10mph our so and I got it up to over 50mph hauling my 235 pounds. I went ahead and reinstalled much of the bodywork I had removed. The headlight lens got broken while in storage and I broke the plastic arm that holds the seat pivot. So I need to fix those. Then I need to decide if I want to paint the old body work the PO painted black or install the factory blue stuff I bought last year. I am leaning towards a rattle can repaint because I don't think it will make a real difference in the value and then I will just resell the rear fenders I bought.

I also pulled out the Harley and took a bunch of pictures. It goes up on CraigsList tonight. I had toyed with making it a runner, but I just don't have the time and my sister wants me to thin the herd of bikes taking up space in her garage.

The Harley successfully found a new home. I sold it for $2k, which is reasonable given the overall condition and the fact that it was on a salvage certificate rather than a title. As it stands I am a few hundred ahead of the combined investment in the Harley and the scooter, including the parts I bought for both over the last year. Once I get the scooter up for sale in a week or two I should end up just about doubling my money.

Posted an ad on CL Sunday night and had a text with an offer waiting for me when I woke up Monday morning, delivered it to the new owner Monday afternoon.

Between what I got for the Harley last year and the scooter the other day I figure I cleared about $800 after parts and paint supplies.
