I like the tail section's white/red scheme because it reminds me of the old Davida helmets, but I'm not sold on the tank, could you do a tank scheme more like the tail mate? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I think I would be to common just to run the racing stripe all the way down. I wanted to break up the patterns a bit.

by the way anyone have any experience with component painting over chromed parts? if you scuff if up with a 100 grit sandpaper will it work or do you have to strip the chrome?

R U think'n Gloss or like a modern flat?

 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi0kezu093ZAhXEVN8KHauNAFAQjRwIBg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bikeexif.com%2Fcafe-racer-cb750&psig=AOvVaw110l2DZ74WsIMkJdzIPCfl&ust=1520630405592488
with the yellow/gray combo. I'd go with gloss basic colors of both, no metallic.
http://www.tcpglobal.com/Automotive-Paint/House-of-Kolor-Paint-Graphic-Colors-SG/
I was gonna use these bc 25 and 26 to mix the gray, then sg102, but apparently new regulations have banned the black and whites... digging for alternative with Shimrin2... shouldn't be that big of an issue.
Humm, Ok. For some reason I was picturing the yellow in flat?
Here's a thought; if you can't decide between red or yellow, go half way between with Orange.  ;)

No worries and yeah, I understand your wanting to be a bit more original with your paint scheme. 100 grit is way too course, try wet sanding it with 220, that should take the shine off the chrome, and provide a key for your paint. A good zinc based etch primer will help whatever paint you'll use stick. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I really like the red but I painted my kawi red.. as seen earlier in the thread... always gravitate towards red/white/black. so want to step away from it. I also like painting bikes colors that are atypical of their factory image (like blue for yami, green for kawi, red for Honda). I despise sanding, and have done plenty in the past, repainting IS a pain. you're right about the number though, I don't want to make it permanent. but I like the framing and set up of the number.

Here's another idea, too:

very classic, kinda reminds me of what Carpy puts out, except a little more tame. I bought my rear hoop from him. real cool guy. i'll probably end up doing the yellow grey combo, with those wings without the circle. just a trying to muster up some guts to pull the trigger. hopefully i'll order the paint by this weekend, have been cleaning up the work shop to make room for a makeshift PVC spray booth.

Wow! A Carpy bike??!  :-X

Anyway, I was trying to give ideas about the logo. I used a classic Honda, period correct logo, professionally painted and pinstriped.

Hey I just re-read your Nine Lives bike build thread Don, what a pain that must have been! Whatever happened to those Lockheed brakes? I wouldn't mind trying some on a CB750, and I thought maybe larger disc rotors maight solve the problem with the calipers hitting the spokes? Cheers, Terry. ;D

not a fan of his work eh? no offense intended if thats the case. I figured that's what you were referring to the old school wing, pin stripping and lettering. a little too retro for my taste for this build at least.

I traded them to my buddy (for him to use). I agree that if you could offset the rotors more than on the 750, you could probably use them.

Everyone has their own aesthetic.  IMO, I think that the bike in its final configuration was pretty distinct from his bikes (note: GL front end, numerous performance upgrades, electronics, custom rebuilt wheels, finishes, custom metal work, etc.).

Cheers, Terry. ;D

I traded them to my buddy (for him to use). I agree that if you could offset the rotors more than on the 750, you could probably use them.

Thanks Don, what I was thinking was using a bigger OD disc rotor, I had the same issue when I installed a PM caliper on the front of my Sporty, I couldn't lower it down enough on the disc without touching the spokes, so I found a rotor that was 20mm larger. The disc on a K2 runs very close to the fork leg, so not much chance of offsetting it away from the spokes. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Careful mate, while Don's a professional contract killer, he hates being patronised. Don't ask me how I know........... ;D

A little update. Started the painting after setting up a makeshift spray booth in the work shed. I'm using House of Kolor paint. After some Bondo work to fill up all the dents that was in the tank from previous owners. Primer and guide coat sprayed.

After some sanding of the guide coat and second round of glaze filter.  the smaller imperfections are filled and smoothed out.  Back to the booth for new coats of primer.

finally had some time to make major progress on the painting. the tank went thru 4 cycles of thing body filling, primer and sanding to get the contour right to hide all those prior dents. for paint, I used House of Color Shimarin 2 system, simply because I had some paint left over from last time (mental note use less expensive paint next time). I've got the base color and first set of clear coat on them. It was quite a race trying to get to base coat on within the same window of sealer placement to clear coat. I certainly forgot how unforgiving body painting is.

Next is the 3rd and 4th layer of color on the tank and tail. while I do sand down the light and front fender to put on a final flow coat.
