1970 750 Fork Lock
« on: November 07, 2017, 04:31:26 pm »
Hello... I have a '70 CB750 with a triple tree going to the media blaster/powder coating.  How do I pull the fork lock and lock cover?  Another question might be do I have to pull these in advance of power coating?  I thank everyone in advance for the valuable help!!!!

The cover is held on by a single, rusty screw. Once you get that out the cover slips off.
Then insert the key and and turn the lock. It will pull out followed by a tiny, rusty spring.

If you're sending out the frame you might want to remove the VIN plate, if there is one.
If there's a plate it's held on with rivets that can be carefully pried out.

One small screw needs to be removed to detach cover. Then if you have a key you'll be able to remove lock completely from triples. Definitely good idea to remove it for powder coat. If no proper key, locksmith is your only help I believe.

Thank you for the help!  The ignition key doesn't fit the fork lock so I guess I'll have to visit a lock smith.  Thanks again!!!

If you can get the number off the lock you may be able to get a replacement key.

I got a new lock set for my 500 project - to remove the steering lock without the key I simply drilled into the key slot at several different angles until it was free to come out.
