I also have a finned Hunt. Nothing to complicated inside, very unique cut gear I guess you would call it. About 10 years ago I called Hunt and told them what I had, he said he thought he had some of the gears collecting dust on the shelf so I bought them all!

Bet they don't fit the RC type

So I found a pic of a spare Hunt mag I have in storage and I can see the points.

So question, does the cam pass under the points, then reach the rubbing block . Or hit the block first?
Trying to determine rotation to see if it fits my new angle drive.

The shaft with the small gear looks like a VW intermediate distributor shaft. The tangs on the bottom of the distributor engaged the slot in the top of the shaft. The cone shaped part is the cam that operates the mechanical fuel pump. The bronze gear would have been mounted on the VW crankshaft.

Mrboost did your bolts snap off? Mine is weeping out of the coverplate, I should open it up, check everything and reseal it.

yep, thats exactly what they are Scottly, 12>1600 air cooled vw drive gears,i spent way too many yr's working on air cooled vw's

Hi there
I realise that this is an old topic and that I am new to the forum but wanted to let members know that if they are still looking for the RC bevel drive gear I have crank gears, carriers and timing plates for the RC angle drives.
I’m sure some members will be upset at an early post from a new member “ peddling wares”
No intention of upsetting anyone but trying to help out.

I had the gears made as I needed one and as there was little difference in cost between a one off and 10 off had a batch made.
Im sure Larry Romig is a forum member He had a gear and carrier from me and was happy

For those looking for the larger internal gear there are two types: a one piece gear with machined VW dog drive machined and a 2 piece where the dog drive is a separate piece that’s then welded to the gear.
Same bearings and locating shaft/pin
Thinking of getting these made up as well if anyone is interested

I had a welded one that got ruined, ground off he welds and replaced it. The replacement did not have welds, but was still a two piece. Used green locktite to secure it.

Remember guys, these drives are not suitable for use with high power magnetos.
