Let’s get started

This bike has been waiting almost 30 years for some attention, I got it a couple of years ago and immediately put the gas  tank on electrolysis, after a good cleaning I put a cup of diesel in it and let it coat the inside and dumped out the rest, and stored the bike at the end of the line of future projects, well the day has come to find this bike in front of the line, in the process of moving the bike from garage to shop I noticed the front brake dragging, something I expected in a bike that hasn't moved more than a few feet  in 30 years, with the bike on the lift the fun begins.....

Standard fare for a long term low mileage stored bike, started with carbs, valve adjustment, front & rear brake calipers & master cylinders, wheel bearings, ignition, etc. she seems to to be all original except the muffler which the original owner says his 4year old son would play gas station and fill up the original muffler with the garden hose when the bike was stored which eventually ruined the muffler

Well I was right the brakes were definitely in need of work and the rear master cylinder was completely seized, but with the help of a grease gun it broke free, the internals look great so I just cleaned everything up and reassembled, filled, bled, and no problems, checked and adjusted the valves twice just for fun, cut the chain off and removed rear tire to inspect and clean, waiting for new electronic ignition, was so impressed with the electronic ignition I installed on my 76 custom NGW GL1000 that I’m not even going to mess with the stock system......

Good. Some of those F'rs had premature valve guide wear at 20-35K miles

That is only with the -410 head on the 77/78 models, no worries here. Arguably the best of the breed in terms of performance AND reliability.

Thanks good to know, when I checked the valve lash only 2 of the intakes were slightly off, the carbs are done and back on, I got a brand new complete  pamco ignition for $100 from a buddy in salt lake, I’ve ran these on a couple of xs650s with no problems so I’m excited to see how it works on this bike, hopefully by next weekend I’ll have it running and be able to fine tune

Got er running this morning, first time she’s  ran clean in almost 30 years, a few more small odds and ends and I’ll put her away till spring, next up is a 71 cb500

The bike looks to be in good condition for sitting so long. Good start to the project. Nice bikes!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but after my last post I was going to move on to my CB500four but I thought the 750 has a good start and deserves a full blown detail, so that’s what I’ve been doing, toothbrush work over the entire bike, a few paint chips on the frame addressed, all bright work polished, and even tho the fork seals seem fine I’m installing a new set......

Thanks, I’m just going to keep it on the lift and keep nitpicking on it till I’m satisfied, I’ve been looking for an nice original muffler for it but with no luck, any info for one would be appreciated

Finished the fork seals and polishing, pretty good for now, now onto my 68 CB450K 1

And you picked up the '68 after all-  Congrats!

Nice 750F.  I actually like the muffler that's on it better then the stock one.
