Winter is here
« on: December 09, 2017, 07:07:36 AM »
30 degrees and a snow and sleet mix. Took me 45 min instead of the usual 15 min to get home last night. Saw at least a half dozen wrecks and roads blocked. Had to take alternative routes get to the house. My backyard.

There is some irony in the fact that you got snow in NC BEFORE I did in Milwaukee! It snowed here over night about an inch for the first snow fall of the year. The nice thing for you is that it will all melt and be 60º again soon and I will have to wait until April. Winter is garage therapy time for me!

+1

Just an inch of snow here in MI, but many have forgotten what snow does to traction. Before I got out of the sub, I noted tracks from two curb jumpers: the first was just after a left turn and the car didn't quite make it to the sidewalk, at the second the car skinned a boulevard tree that was ringed with bowling ball sized boulders.... the boulders were scattered and the car and driver were gone but his car/oil pan/front clip/air dam must have suffered some damage. Glad I wasn't a pedestrian at either event.

It's time to put the battery tender on the CB and do the end of season oil change.

Ugh,
Just finished arguing with my dad over legit reason to NOT take the xs750 on the roads now that everything has been chem treated.

Rust, rust, and more rust!  I made myself sick cleaning the rust off that lump of steel and I’ll be very perturbed if I have to do it again!

It snowed here in Austin, caught all of us by surprise, even the weather forecasters.  It was less than a half inch and didnt stick, the ground is still too warm.

Just tried out my new snow blower on a measly 4 inches of snow in the driveway. Fantastic!  Last year I shoveled it by hand- double wide 40 ft long... yeah winter arrived finally. Bob

Been driving for the past week and half.

27 in the morning with freezing fog, 55(!) in the afternoon and clear blue sky.

Want to ride in, but I don't want to drop it in the many patches of black ice.  Already claimed a rider this week - someone crossed the line on highway 18, went under a van, bike caught fire and burned up.  :(

Yeah, pretty cold here too, if it gets any cooler I might need to start sleeping inside.............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

3 people got killed in Kalamazoo on motorcycles in a few days here recently during our last little over 50 degree December warm spell. Pretty tragic.

Yup!  Stored the convertible, winterized the bikes and readied the snowblower on Thursday. We got about an inch + of heavy, wet snow . Just enough to be a pain in the a**.

It's a freakin winter wonderland here this morning. I just got the plow on and did the two blocks of sidewalk since no one else does it. There are kids that walk to school and back some days. If I get it clean while the sun is shining it usually melts dry.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Here in WI we had just enough snow to cover the grass for Christmas. Today the current temp is -4 and wind chill warnings to -35 below. Going to be very cold all week. Time to stoke up the the fireplace.

Well Seattle had it's brief fling with Winter this Christmas.  Gots 4" at my house on Christmas Eve (yes!) and it stayed all Christmas day - now it's juuusssst beginning to melt.  I actually got to engage the 4wd on my new truck! ;D  I forgot how poorly they turn with 4WD engaged on dry pavement. :(

At any rate - back to the old Seattle standby - overcast, drizzle, mid to low 40's.

You lucky buggers, it's gonna be around 100 today, so not sure whether to go for a ride, or shelter close to my refrigerator! ;D

I thought snow would have killed the grass. I have just learned another thing. cheers
