time capsule

it's not often that you come across a racing bike that was put to rest after it's last race 40 years ago and never touched again...
today in the milan novegro swapmeet there was such a rare beauty, a CB500/4 crammed with rare period hot rodding parts, some of them i never ever seen before:
fonatana magnesium hubs
radially drilled rear disc
35mm "doughnut" ceriani fork with original cast ears for big brembo calipers
18" rear slick
Segale style tank seat combo
beautifull full period fairing (was stuck between the CB500 and the gorgeous 888 SBK duc on the back, so no pics)
quartet of 28mm dellortos

lot's of "swiss cheesing" and not even a single screw seemed to be past 1980...

Seller doesnt know the history of the bike as it already passed a few hands since was last raced. 5500 euros asked sounded more than reasonable to me

Went to look at it with MikeR's swiss client, who was equally impressed :)

What a find TG, but I pity the poor sod that had to set up those 28's, better man than me - I caved in and switched to cr's in the end.

guess that back at the time getting a set of tickler CR's in italy wasnt that easy. the guy had some dosh because the bike is fitted with top components for the period. i twisted the bike's throttle and it certainly felt heavy....

damn heavy TG - like having a Jota on the end of the twistgrip, tried lighter springs but got slide flutter

i know how fighting against a pair of big dellorto's with a quick throttle feels like from my LM III, can only imagine the struggle against three of them :)
