It is always something...
« on: March 14, 2018, 10:18:00 AM »
Fixed the oil leak (new valve cover gasket), now the #1 carb (I think) is leaking out overflow tube. Was kind of looking forward to leaving the tools in the chest this weekend. Guess not.

And yes I would like some cheese with that whine  :'(

I maybe just a little junk in the needle seat area. Try flushing the offending carb by draining the float bowl and refilling a few times and it may flush the seat enough to correct the issue.
Worst case I have used my small compressor reduced down to about 30 lbs pressure on the gauge and opened and drained the offending carb leaving the drain screw out. Pulled the inlet gas hose on the carb rack from the petcock and blown compressed air through the system and it usually dislodges anything from the float seat area. Its good to place a rag around the drain hole on the carb to catch any gas spray. Cold engine is also a good thing to start with too, as you have gas fumes around the motor for a few seconds.

Common sense.....isn't so common!

If working on your old vintage bike isn't fun on some level.  You should not have it, imo, as it now owns you.

If it is just another tool to move your butt from A to B.  Modern ones with warranty service do that without you having to do any work on it.

Perhaps you need to revisit your priorities?  Vintages bikes are never finished with routine maintenance.  If that makes you miserable, why have it at all?

I dare you.  List all the reasons why you still own this bike.

It's true. it IS always something. Part of me would like to have a newer bike that required less tinkering. Much as I do enjoy the tinkering to some extent, sometimes I just wanna ride. That said I'll never get rid of my CB750, so a newer lower-maintenance bike would have to be a second bike, not a replacement.

Didn't say I was miserable, I like working on the bike and have many old bikes (mostly of the dirt/dual sport variety), just saying it's always something. My house is the same way and it is only 10 years old. I like the bike better  ;D

I agree...life would be pretty boring if "it was NOT always something". :) Although I have to admit my 750's once done have been pretty maintenance free...better not say that to loud.

Buy at least one modern-ish bike mate, for days when you want to ride and your SOHC4 is pissing you off, I've got lots of bikes so if one is pissing me off it's nice to just be able to jump on another one, rather than going mental and shooting it with my old .50 cal rifle. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yep, I have to choose from  a Triumph, Harley, 2x BMW's, a Yamaha or 5 Honda's, and there might be Suzuki on the horizon, so always something interesting to ride. Old bikes are fun, but modern (big) bikes are awesome. ;D

I have a 1993 Nighthawk that I was going to fix and flip. Turns out it didn't need fixing, kept it to have until I get the 350 fully sorted out. Plus I kind of like it.
