Cracked tube solution
« on: April 06, 2018, 09:40:57 AM »
Okay okay so check the picture out this cracks are in an Autolite 2150 carb off an F100! Yes yes I know not a bike but the emulsion tube is exact same kind of brass tube that is in a petcock for the Reserve I have tossed dozens of those and had to replace them for those splittings. For this particular carb you can't get just that part you would have to get the whole carb so I'm wondering what's the best way to fix this. I've dodged a bullet so many times on the petcocks I would know by now if I wouldn't have just replaced it hahaha

With those being emulsion tubes, I'd be very sceptical.  The overflows are just that. Just a tube. I've used JB Weld successfully.  Some have shrunk a plastics tube over the crack. But those emulsion holes are gonna throw you a curveball.

Only holes at the bottom Scott. It hasnt split that far yet!.

I was thinking fuel proof jb or solder.Admittedly the jb route is more my area of expertise. Anybody else have fuel proof plan? Lol Would heat shrink not just melt. Its not constantly immersed.

Solder and flux first. If not than JB.

IDK about heat shrink tubing, but people use brass tubing that can be purchased from craft and hobby shops to repair the carb overflow pipes. I would think you could use something similar in this situation to reinforce the tubes.

They are very easily soldered and solder will last.

+1, solder is the only way to go. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Solder did the trick! Practiced on an old petcock first. Skills aquired! Used a little sandpaper to thin it down afterward on the truck carb. Wouldnt be needed on a reserve tube though. Cheap fix!
