Well I only just noticed this sentiment on my Z1000 drag bike, the PO was a guitar maker, so I'm guessing that was one of his favourite songs, but if I had to name my day today, "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" would be more like it.

ZZR Lazy Sunday Afternoon 7 by terry prendergast, on Flickr

Anyhoo, I'd promised to machine up a bush for the brake pivot on my friend Lenny's CB750 chop, so I dragged myself out into the cold and found a lump of bronze bar, and was happy with the result.

While I was out there I fliiped the oven on, so I could pull the ZZR sleeve for the third (and hopefully last) time. After an hour or so I wandered back out and knocked the sleeve out, then let everything cool down again. Once cool, I compared the old sleeve's flange thickness to the new one, and yep, there's your problem..........

Anyway, a couple of "guesstimate" passes on the lathe, and it was declared "close enough" to pass my stringent quality control process.

So, as I type this drivel, the oven's back on, the block is quietly roasting at 450 deg F, and the sleeve is sitting in my bar fridge ready to be dropped in. I'll wander back out and plop it back in once I finish this drink. More soon! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Did you measure depth of counter bore and compare to width of the lip, before you installed ?
Terry, did you measure? Depth match the lip or is the lip thicker?

Thanks Pewe, the lip (flange) on the new sleeve was taller by .30mm, but after my superb machining skills, it's now close enough to perfect. After heavy sedation today I wasn't allowed to drive or play with machines (or else I would have installed the new Pingel fuel tap that arrived today for the drag bike and taken it for a fast spin around the block) but I'll take a pic of the sleeve now seated perfectly in the block and post it. Stay tuned! ;D

Ha ha, nah, I had to have a gastroscopy today Spotty, and they knock you out while they shove the camera down your throat, which I think is damn decent of them, knowing my predilection for drugs.

If it wasn't for the heavy sedation I would have been heading over to the pissed off thread, I was booked in for 0600 so being a good soldier I arrived at 0548, only to see the receptionist drag her arse in at 0610, and even though I was first cab off the rank for theatre, they didn't do me until around 0810?

Still, I'd been sh1tting myself thinking they were gonna stuff their box brownie down my guts while I was wide awake, so I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up, feeling no worse for wear only a half hour after they'd finished. Cheers, Terry. ;D

had one of those procedures myself some years ago, they weren't going to knock me out, just 'relax 'me a bit...

they tried one and the gag reflex kicked in so they gave me a little booster of happy, gag reflex still kicked in

last thing i remember is the doctor saying "for fcuks sake put him to sleep", woke up about 3 hours later

they obviously weren't aware of my quite high resistance to sedatives and the like

was a waste of time anyway, a gastroscopy won't find gall stones which turned out to be the problem
i blame Terry

Yeah, I'm having surgery in late August, so the gastronomic invasion was necessary, but no biggie. Only concern was they found a bit of damage in my oesophagus caused by acid burning? Wow, I never even dropped acid man, what's that all about? ;D

Ha ha, it probably was Bobby, army cooks (or "Tucker Fcukers" as we refer to them here) are pretty universally terrible at their job, but let's face it, cooking for hundreds of smart arse soldiers wouldn't really give you much in the way of job satisfaction, I wouldn't think? ;D

Well what do you give a guy with a bad back, knees, Bursitis in both shoulders, and adhesive capsulitis? Yep, now I've got a fcuking cold, or the flu. I didn't get out of bed until 9am, it was so cold outside I just couldn't see the point, but my back was telling me to get up, and so was my bladder, so up I got.

I'd bought a new Pingel fuel tap for the Z1000 drag bike but on closer inspection realised that the black kwak has a later model tank with a (non functional) vacuum operated tap, that leaks, so my new tap isn't a straight fit, I may need to turn up an alloy base for it so I can adapt it to my tank. Just like CB750's, you can buy a new Z1 tank, sidecovers and ducktail painted in OEM colors for a pretty good price from a shop in Japan, so eventually I'll buy my big black girl some new clothes, but for now, until I get the frame sorted, I'll hold off spending big bucks on it.

Anyway, I drained the tank, which had a gallon of Avgas (love that smell) in it, hooked up the fuel line that Craig, the PO had disconnected and plugged on the day I bought it because of the leak, refilled the tank and after only 2 kicks (fcuk it's got some compression, I reckon those Moriwaki pistons must be at least 12:1) it fired right up. Even with the removable baffle it's loud, but what's so impressive is it's willingness to rev, I remember Craig said he had the crank welded, and I'm guessing he had a fair bit of weight taken off and balanced too, it responds to the throttle better than my RC51. I thought about taking it for a blat up the street, but chickened out, and called it good.

My poor old Sporty has been gathering dust in the patio for the last few months. I had a cover over it, but all the neighbourhood cats were using the cover for target practise, and their piss was dribbling onto the chrome rims, so I took the cover off and put it over my old Bolens mower instead, so now the cats happily wee all over the mower instead. I bought a new battery for my Hawg last Christmas and was worried that it might have beeen a bit flat, but no, it spun the engine over nice and fast, and the old girl fired right up.

Apart from only being 50 deg F, it was a bright sunny day, so I bravely braved the cold, and went for a ride. It ran out of fuel while idling in the driveway (I always steal fuel out of it for the mowers, other bikes etc) but I flipped the lever to reserve and rode to the gas station and filled it up, it took a whole 9 litres! I also pumped the tyres up, which really made a difference, both had less than 10 psi, oops......... Anyway, I had a great ride, did the old "Ton" a few times, and didn't get caught, but after an hour or so my left shoulder was killing me, I had to keep dropping my arm to take the pressure off, so I turned for home. I only did just over 60 miles, but it was a nice ride for this time of year. Tomorrow I'll do some more ZZR1100 work. ;D

Ha ha, yep, I hate Melbourne weather too Mick, I lived in Brisbane for 2 years and could move back tomorrow, but the missus is a Melbourne girl, so I'll just keep putting the "Ant Rid" in her tea and eventually move up on the life insurance.........

The ZZR has a fuel pump and carbs, I think the VFR does too? As I told you on FB though the ZZR fuel pump is still working fine after sitting with fuel in it for 18 years, which I thought was impressive, but it might have been "pre-unleaded"?

I cleaned the rust out one of those pig-ugly BMW R1100C "James Bond" bike's tanks, the tank liner fell apart and the pump sh1t itself, but I was able to buy a dodgy Chinese copy that worked fine on EBay for 50 bucks or so, which worked fine. I spent about a week carefully peeling the old liner out and cleaning out the rust with phosphoric acid but the sheila who owned it still got the tank re-lined, which I didn't think it needed. Oh well........... ;D

Yeah mate
I'm cranky that I could have bought a bank of RS34's for the price of that pump.
I don't know what would be involved to set it all up, but it'd have to be doable with a bit of bush engineering.  ;D

Yeah Mick, I reckon a bank of flat slide Mikuni's would work beaut, the 36mm GSXR750(?) CV carbs on my old black Kwaka work fine, weigh nothing and are cheap to buy, so as long as you can get some inlet stubs to suit, you'd be fine, you might have to install another ignition though, so you could piss the computer off? Shouldn't be that hard though? ;D

50F is fine riding weather. Nice leather jacket with a thermal vest. The brisk air heightens the senses. The air is crisp as it passes through your helmet vents.  You stop for some hot cocoa with a marshmallow on top.

You get home and light a fire. Pour some good whiskey and relive the days events. You kick back and say "what the f-ck was I thinking.
