"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

Should still take that bid, in today's market.

I agree, if it were stock, maybe wait. Otherwise, take it.

It's an damn nice, well done, amazing bike. I hope he gets $10K.
But, IMO, the market is pretty soft these days, new or used. And that's an incredible price for a CB550.

I disagree on the market.  Bikes are still bringing a premium.  Just take finding the right buyer for bike and getting enough exposure to find them.

That is a VERY clean looking build. I wish I had the patience to do something like that.

Scott, you sound like you have some vested interest in that bid ;)

Just so everyone knows, ESPECIALLY Shortround, I was in no way bagging on the bike. I just think that's crazy money for a 550 and I'm glad to see the market rebound a bit. Makes me wanna throw mine out there and see what happens.

And, despite what Innovatems says, I still feel the market is soft. In my neck of the woods, anyway.
I did pretty well on two '80's bikes, but they were both above average examples and both had a bit of a cult following. Not many people want them, but the ones that do REALLY want them.
I made enough to nearly pay cash for a prisitine....I'm talking new as showroom...low mileage, one owner, nicely equipped 2014 Triumph Scrambler. That's a HELL of a lot of bike for not much money at all. WAY less than the final bid on Shortround's bike. One instance where the soft market worked in my favor!

I’m not saying you’re wrong on your thoughts on the current market, I’m curious on what you’re seeing.  I have two buddies that import and export and they have been saying how strong the market is right now.  I’ve been getting great prices for the ones I’ve sold recently.  Custom bikes are bringing money though.  There was a cx500 at handbuilt that sold for 8500 on eBay.

Custom CB's especially 550's and 750's seem to bring good money.  REALLY nice (for many years, lowly..) CX500's are also bringing in high dollars.  I would be hard pressed to take much less then that for my own 550F.  I may never get that if it came up for sale, but there are people that have the money, want unique, and don't want to (or maybe, can't) do the work.

Scott that’s a great looking bike.  Yeah money is coming from early 750’s, 400f, Black bombers, any 2 stroke street bikes and the 80’s sport bikes are on the come up, and custom bikes.  On custom bikes it just takes that one guy that wants it.

Good clean stock style bikes are doing well too.
