Small storage compartment?
« on: June 23, 2018, 07:14:25 PM »
I'm finishing up my bike, but I am looking for a small storage option for it. Mainly it will be for my glasses, or some other small items. I am hoping for it to be discrete. I've looked at tank bags, front fork bags, license plate compartments, but none seem to fit the bill. The license plate compartment was the closest to what I am looking for, but the max depth I could find was 1 inch, which is to narrow for my specs. Anyone have any thoughts?

They do, but I haven't seen a seat frame with a compartment yet. I am not good with fabrication, so DIY will LLS.

I have a small fanny pack strapped down at the back of my seat. It's big enough to hold my phone, camera, pack of smokes, and wallet. Think it cost $3 at a thrift store? ;D

I have a smaller battery to make room for the ignition module on top of the battery. 11Ah instead of 14Ah. Same size except for height. Maybe not enough for glasses.
Strap an old style leather toolbox on the fork under headlight. Rather common on choppers, old HD and Triumph builds.

Stop it Scottly. You guys don't know how lucky you are with smokes over there. They are made from nice tobacco and are dirt cheap.
Here in Aussie the tobacco is crap and a pack of 20 smokes is near $25. No wonder there are so many ex smokers or poor current smokers here.

Good lightweight riding jacket should have nice compartments/pockets but I do see you are down in hot summer Florida.

I wear my sunglasses while riding. If I wear my regular glasses, my eyes water from the wind whipping around them :P

I do have a jacket that I ride with in the cooler months, but when its 95 and 90% humidity... not a good idea. I stashed them under my seat today, but cant shake the fear of them somehow finding the hole between the battery box and the small storage tray (which is now home to my M-unit).  I do have an undersized battery, 8 cell lithium, but there isn't enough room between it and the wall of the battery tray.

I’ve used this soft case for safety glasses. Zip ties anywhere and holds glasses, g.d. opener.

I really think I am just making this harder than it should be. There is probably no seamless storage option for this, short of a new seat with custom storage. Anyone have any luck with some of the modular storage systems out there for the bikes?

Same here as far as the bicycle bag.

I have it strapped on the rear frame.

When I get home I'll snap a shot of it.

piefairy, i've spend numerous hours googling this as well.  as far as i can tell there isn't anything "seamless".  here's one i like that could strap to the rear of the seat.  https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/held-tenda-tail-bag?kclid=27f5ad43-2f47-4f45-af3a-9d7be6c19304&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyYeY-bHx2wIVC7jACh1bcQgcEAQYAyABEgJuV_D_BwE

A bicycle underseat bag can be of varying sizes and it is designed to strap to the seat rails so it can strap onto the frame. I had one I gave to a friend big enough for a tube, cactus thorns take out tubes pretty easily, and patch kit and CO2 inflator. Would easily be able to find one that could strap to triple tree top and hold everything you would need. Make a hard case out of 1/4 inch wood and use a ziplock baggie to keep things dry. Have it mount over the triple tree if you want a different look...low enough to not hit tank or obstruct gauges. Mock it up with cardboard to form your patterns.

Its a little ghetto, but I made a chicken wire basket that mounts next to the battery under the seat. It is enough to hold my wallet, tools, and sunglasses. Nothing special really.
