Driving a couple hours to possibly pick up a clean 1970 CB350. All original. Just needs normal tune-up work done. 11,XXX miles. Offered $1500, seller said he’d like to get a little more than that. What would you fellas pay?

Give me a few days and I can get to my book on all of the Honda motorcycles of the last century. That price does sound high but what’s been done do it? It kicks right? Nothing frozen? Does it start or are the carbs gummed up? Any oil leaks?

Seller claims it runs decent. No oil leaks. Could probably use carbs cleaned/rebuilt. Claims he just rode it several hundred miles without issue.

careful, 11,000 miles is a lot for one of those, they do not have an oil filter, very prone to cam bearing failure, and once the cam bearings fail it means a new cylinder head, which, of course, there are not many good ones left

The 350 twins have ball bearing crankshafts right? I always thought that’s why their cranks were good but it has no oil filter? How does that work?

Instead of filter, has a spin trap to catch dirt and particles, so every so often you must open the crankcase to clean out the spin trap. Few bikes had a real oil filter before 1970

Um if you burn up the cam bearing, just swap end caps. Head is seperate, so is rocker box. And of course cam bearings .
I think that one has the 11,500 redlineband the better rockers.
With a cam and springs they rev 14,000.

A lot depends on where you are -- markets vary -- but $1500 seems pretty fair and I bet it would go for more in NYC, LA, SF, Seattle, and elsewhere.

I don't think 11k miles is that much -- provided it was serviced properly and regularly. It's worth asking him about that, if he maintained it himself or if he has receipts. If he says he maintained it himself ask him if he knows what the point gap is supposed to be, or how to clean the oil filter! And you can always check some stuff while you are there -- are the undersides of the pipes rotted out? If it runs, let it warm up -- oil seeping anywhere? Smoke? Chain and sprocket wear? Forks clean and dry? All electrical works? Wiring in good shape? Tank clean? Do a compression test.

Original ‘69/70 CB350 twins in good shape are getting harder to find. From the pics, looks to be all there. Paint looks great. I love how the seat hinges at the tail

. The front drum brake looks pretty cool too.

Things to consider on top of what has already been mentioned:

Engine # and frame # correct for the year?

Are the pipes Honda (stamped HM-xxx or HMCB350-xxx) or aftermarket?

Are the electrics all there and working? Original? I had to swap out rectifier and regulator with a combined r/r unit (under $50) on my ‘69.

Will you need to replace tires?

If it checks out and runs well, I would jump on that. Prices are much higher in my market and continue to rise.

Go get it before somebody else does !!!

I also admired the 2 tone early 350's. Great looking bikes. Guess you have to think about how you are going to use it. I had to get the CB350 off my want list and found a local 1972 a few years ago with low miles. Fixed it up and rode it for a month. Found the bike was to small for me as I was spoiled by the rides from the CB750's. I sold it soon after. The first pic is how I found it and 2nd when I had it done. I had OEM exhaust for it, but the new owner wanted a lower price so I put the aftermarkets back on. She was a fun bike, just not as fun as the CB750's.

Took her home for $1600! All original, runs, 155 psi compression! Will need a tune up but I’m fine with it 👍

My friend John at Motorcycle Solutions here in Toledo, has a 1969 CB350 like the red one, in Very good shape, and I think he wants $2200 for it.
