Little yellow F'er....400F resto (77)

Hey all.  Thought it best to document this here as I'll no doubt have a few questions along the way.  No stranger to the inline 4's but this will be my first frame strip restoration. 

Going to make a clean runner out of it and stay stock or very close to it.  77 400F.  Wasn't running when I got it of course (what fun is that?😂) but with a carb rebuild it fired right up.

So it's currently stripped to the bare frame with the engine out and in a stand awaiting cleaning and paint.

  That's a sweet find. They are a blast to ride. I don't think DSS has the parts they used to but still sell a lot of 400 stuff. I've owned 3 and haven't gotten a good right control yet.

I did have to rebuild this one or at least buy the inner white plastic piece for a future rebuild of the switch.

I'm curious if this was a fix for a cam chain adjuster issue or?

It looks like someone changed the upper bolt. Would be worth taking it apart to inspect.

I tried to turn the bolt but it's stuck.  I fear snapping it off or cracking the case.  Not really worth it in my opinion.

nice find! (I have the same ;-).....yes that bolt is a cam adj. fix (also did the same on mine ;-)...if you are going open the case and re-do the motor, I suggest taking it out (reversed drill bit/easy out and liquid wrench) what ever it takes, just take your time and care and you will be fine.

Nope.  Won't be splitting the case so the bolt can stay where it is!

...yes it can stay where is it BUT make sure the cam chain adj. works well with it otherwise you will have to split it open later, not fun :(

Frame painting time!  That's a 77 and 75 frame.  Blasted and primed ready for paint.

 I always used Dupont Imron blitz black and when it's still wet I used some reducer with what was left in the bottom feed cup and shot the frame with that. The reducer melts in the overspray and it looks like powder coat. Probably more gloss than stock though.

common fault usually due to over zealous spanering. You may as well address the problem now, there a pretty easy strip down your going to need to adjust that cam chain at some stage.
