2 cold and 2 hot????
« on: January 14, 2007, 10:18:29 AM »
I have a new to me 750 K5 that I have been re storing. I have cleaned the carbs and adjusted the valves but she still has no power. It idles pretty well but at higher rpms under load she does not sound right and does not have any power. At first it seemed like she was running lean so I riched up the needles and the bog went away when quickly opening the throttle but still NO power. After a short ride on the backstreets, I just noticed that the #1 and 4 exhaust pipes are barely hot(you can hold your hand on them right at the engine!) but #2 and 3 are too hot to touch which you would expect. Obviously 1 and 4 are not putting out power....any ideas?

Ignition problem.
1 and 4 shares the same ignition coil.
Take the tank off and check the wiring and connections to the coil.
Still no luck?
Check the points setting and condensator for cyl 1 and 4.
Still no luck?
Try switching coils and check if the problem follows the coil, i.e. 1 and 4 starts running and 2 and 3 stops.
If so, your coil is shot!

Cheers and good luck!

Omega,

#1 and #4 are tied to the same coil, point contact and condenser.  Pull either the #1 or #4 spark plug and test for spark.  If no spark, clean and gap the contact point labled "1/4" (left side points as you look at the points plate on the right side of the crank shaft).  If you still get no spark, you may have a bad coil.

Let us know the results of the spark test and contact clean/gap and we'll go from there.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
