What's the difference between early and late transmission?

Hi there

I'm wondering what the difference is between early model and late model transmission and cush drive please for a CB750.

For one, the gear on the sprocket shaft and its mate, are different than early ones.
 Can be changed as a set.

I have nothing to start with but empty cases.  Does it matter what year model as to what I put in them?

I believe that you can put any year set in the empty case, hopefully somebody will confirm it.

I will be assembling bottom half for Dorothy this winter - her 2nd is gone - and I have a later set of gears I hope can use.

I  know the later xmission/engine cases require a different rear wheel hub assy build to match up if transplanted to an earlier bike so I'd advise a close look at that area as being prudent.
