Pod water protection cover?
« on: October 26, 2018, 08:18:51 AM »
I have pods that stick out enough to get water dripping from tank when cleaning the bike (or heavy rain). My carbs have long intakes which place carbs backwards where tank is narrow making pods 1 and 4 to be outside of the tank. Water can drip inside pod and get stucked in carbs making engine to run like crap when started with water in.
The water seems to block the needle jet and must be flushed away with carb cleaner or compressed air. A 50 km high revving ride will not fix it.

Solution: Small covers over 1 and 4 from tank side. I have ideas about how, but it might be ready to use solutions out there.
- Anyone that has seen any pod covers or made a simple water cover?
Enough for the outer side. Not too much that will cause less airflow and cause richer as a choke.

Thanks guys! Both solutions look similar and look good! ;)
I have had thoughts about the frame ears for airbox. Old photo when I have just mounted the carbs.

PeWe,
There are food container covers that have elastic on them, they are called coverups or covermate, I think the smallest ones might work for pod covers. Check them out in the supermarket, or the megastore WalMart!

Yes, cover them will work while cleaning the bike.
If the bike will be parked outside during a heavy rain, water might enter the carbs when starting it.
Easier with a permanent protection for at least carb 1 and 4.
It must look good too. I hoped that KN or other should have a protection plate or similar.

How about a couple of these for number 1 and 4 carbs. Screaming eagle rain sock for Harley's. You could trim it down for the Hondas' pods.

I was thinking cut down a stock airbox but that wouldn't be productive to the idea of pods. I even own a K0 with pods on it now so welcome me to the pod club.  It came rejetted already so I left them on for fun.

Just a slightly related story, we had jr dragsters on an open trailer with 30mm lectrons and pod filters and got rained on going to the track. Neither of them would run until I took the filters off, the water in the filter elements made a big difference.

CB750 K6 stock carbs with Pods had no problems with water. Pods completely covered by tank. No issues at all.
I need to find a piece of alu sheet I can bend making a cover on each side routing water away from the pod filter, bolted in the frame ears for stock airbox.
