Carpy Yoshimura Exhaust Volume?
« on: March 27, 2019, 06:13:31 PM »
Anyone have the Yohismura Replica from Carpy's Cafe Racers with baffling and glass pack? I'm looking for a new exhaust for my '76 CB550F and I absolutely love the Yoshi pipe! Only problem is I commute daily in Los Angeles, and I am worried about how loud it is (I think 96db is the CA legal limit). I know these things are supposed to sound good and loud, but could the baffle and glass pack make it tolerable for commuting in CA? I haven't heard one in person, or seen a video of anyone that has tried to quiet it with glass pack. Otherwise I'm going with a Cone Engineering quiet core; but I don't like the look as much and it costs about the same for just the one muffler...

Thanks for any help!
Andy

The baffle and some muffler material should keep it well within the rules.

Pops Yoshimura himself used a long tapered cone once or twice on his racers.  This racer he built and campaigned in the early 70s, including Daytona.  Something like this with quality linings should help a good bit.

2nd pic is the short exhaust
