Any Datsun folks?
« on: May 09, 2019, 12:16:53 PM »
Datsuns were really the first machines I ever took an interest in and learned to repair myself.
B210’s are my favorite model, but I really enjoy them all. Keep my info handy if you ever need anything a series parts, part numbers, or general help! Any other Datsun folks on the sohc forums?

I'm not a Datsun guy, but I've wanted to be since I was a kid.  I've always had a thing for the 240Z.

My big introduction into the world of vehicles was early/mid 70's VW buses.

Right on. I am from the east coast originally (philly area) and there are virtually no Datsuns left over that way. Now that I live on the west coast it is still fairly common to pick up an inexpensive Datsun (sometimes running and driving examples) I’d love a 240z but they have jumped so high in price I typically stick with 620’s b210’s, etc. I’ve never messed much with VW stuff, however my girlfriend has a 71 Riviera bus that we gotta get started on soon!

I live near Philly, haven't seen a Datsun in years.  Almost bought a Datsun pick up before the name change to Nissan....Larry

The early 80’s trucks right before the transition to Nissan are pretty good trucks. Dime a dozen out this way still, but a truck like that in Philly would fetch a lot of money. I lived in Roslyn, PA for the first half of my life. Miss the food and Yuengling’s beer! And all the Italian bakery’s!

I don't have Datsun's but I can put the cam and distributor drive from a 510 in my 72' MGB GT. I spent a good amount of time in a 240Z.

My Aunt and Uncle lived in Roslyn...the Fleischers.  A Datsun (if there is a survivor here) would most likely be one giant rust bucket. The Datsun dealer (at least I think my memory is right) was up the road from Montgomeryville Cycle Center, I worked as a mechanic there back in the 80's

My first new truck was a Datsun, 1600 cc motor and sprung like a 3/4ton truck. Had a 4 sleeper cab over camper and pulled a bike trailer to the desert races almost every weekend. Had everything they offered and I paid $2310 for it in 73. I think that was the first year for the 240Z. The one I like is the 1600 or 2000 Roadster.

It was called the FairLady, Datsun's MG roadster copy.

I believe the Fairlady was the Japan version of the Z. May have been in other non U S markets also, but U S was always "z".

The Datsun Roadster would kick any MG's butt with the 1600 motor, the 2000 was even faster.

That's what happens when you take somebody else's product and refine it, that's what the Japanese do. MG's aren't as quick but they handle just as good and have way more torque because of their long stroke motors, a creation of the British bore tax. If I want a faster MG I will just put my 240hp 2.8 V6 in it. The Fairlady name was also used on the 1600 and 2000 roadsters.

I think that the A series 60A 5 speed transmissions are a popular swap on those MG’s as well. The MG’s and Datsuns are eerily similar!

I love those old trucks! Great work trucks even today if kept up on maintenance. The Roadsters are really fun little cars. I had one for a very short amount of time. Wasn’t a fan of the SU carburetors but there are a handful of pretty cool aftermarket options for them as well. Quick cars too! Especially the 2000 for it’s time. They had a faulty design where they would throw chains, and a complete timing kit is ridiculously expensive if they can be found and most of the valve covers have been welded above where the timing chain rides due to them being thrown out!

I did not know that about the name. But as far as MG's go the TD is my favorite Brit car.

What a trip! I have family in Folcroft. Probably 5 minutes away from you. I like Delco. My father lived in Ridley Park for a while too.

A V8 is almost overkill in cars this light. 300hp it about all you can put to the ground without creating giant smoke shows. ;D

The red GT has 450 hp, a Rover 4.6L engine. But bit has a lot of ground effects I think.. big wing and front spoiler.

Remove the ground effects from that GT and it is smoke show city. ;D It takes a lot of work to get 450hp from a Rover motor. I have seen several MG's with 5.0L Ford motors and lots with GM 60° V6's. I can get 240hp from a 60° V6, stock was 110hp. The LS motors are the way to go these days, 500/600hp is pretty easy to get to.

There is few videos of its it does not spin much coming out of the hairpins, which are around 25mph .
I would imagine the wing and front spoiler maybe don't do much a 10 mph
All that work to run it 2 days a year... not many doorslammers doing those times..

Allan Reid the driver  still has the purple Trident he rode to school in 73.. pretty cool..

I'm not a Datsun guy, but I've wanted to be since I was a kid.  I've always had a thing for the 240Z.

+1...my neighbor had a nice 240Z.

My wife always wanted a Z car and when it was time to "retire" the G35, she said how bought a Z?!

OK!!

For those that do not know, the Datsun name was dropped in 1984 and parent name Nissan name used ever since.
