1977 750A value question / opinions
« on: May 30, 2019, 06:40:10 am »
My Dad passed away a few years ago and i'm still sorting through the myriad of things he had. One of which is a 1977 Hondamatic that he purchased in 2010 (i think). It ran great up until he passed late 2017. Unfortunately, it sat outside and was moved to various barns so it got a little crusty.

I've realized that I'm not going to have the time to get it back to a point where it could be enjoyed (baby on the way) and I do not like the idea of it sitting out degrading further than what it currently has. Couple that with my lack of attachment or memories associated with this bike, I think it'll be best to let it go to someone who will appreciate it and get it back on the road or, at worst, part it out to be able to get other bikes roadworthy.

With that, I would like to know what you all think is the best course:

* Do I sell it as is or entertain parting it out?
* If I sell it as is, whats a reasonable asking price?

If this is the wrong section for this and it should be in the classifieds, apologies and I will take my lashings.

Some pics (i have the side covers...i brought them inside shortly after he passed):

I inherited my Fathers 77 CB750A back in the 1990's. My dad parked it in about 1981 with about only 4K miles on it. Was in a heated garage unrestored most of of its life. I remember getting offers for about $500 to $550 back around 1999 to 2001 but it was always worth more to me than that. I got the bike fixed up (just recently disabled the speed warning unit per an old post I found on this thread) Its in great shape and I have some new exhaust to install when I have time.

My advise... Spend an entire saturday polishing, washing, and spit shining the thing. Take some nice photos of it on a sunny day and ask $1800. Hipsters will like this bike and maybe youll do ok on the sale (as is-non working of course)

Dont part it out.. sell the thing outright.

Thanks. I think that's a sound idea and will see about going that route. I really do not want to part it since it's all complete. Shoot, i can probably get it running with some minimal effort.

sell as is . if you can get 300-500 id be happy.

They were a unpopular bike, not going up in value, and you can spend double or triple that easy to get it running , stopping, handling ok.

imho of course!
