Naval Shipyard Cubs and Trails
« on: August 26, 2019, 12:44:03 AM »
Any old Navy guys out there? I picked up a 68 CT90K0 in Sacramento recently. It has this sticker on the side that says (if for some reason you can't see the images) SUPSHIP 11, Long Beach, US Navy. The original owner clearly worked to keep it rust free. There's orange paint all over the frame and you can see they did it with a broad brush. I think the color is actually international orange, which is used in naval and aerospace industries for high visibility... A lot of the hardware has been replaced with galvanized too. I'm pretty sure this was someone's shipyard commuter. I've heard of the littler Honda's being popular on shipyards since they were easy to ride and could carry a load. Does anyone else have any history like that? I'm endlessly curious about this. And I gotta know where this sticker came from, man, it's really cool. I want to paint the whole bike in that industrial orange and I wanna restore the sticker. I just think it has so much character...

Oh, and there's no plate on the steering stem and I can't find a stamping anywhere on the frame so I don't know what the frame number is. The engine # CT90E-184253 tells me it's a 68 K0, and that lines up with the airbox and trailing link and single sprocket and all that. I just think it's weird I can't find a frame number anywhere.

Bad ass!!! Thanks David. I'll give that a shot. I'm still curious to see if anyone else is familiar with Honda's on naval yards.

I spent 20 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard until it closed. We didn’t have any Honda’s or other bikes at the yard. Mare Island was SupShip 12. Mostly nuclear submarine work as well as some pretty deeply classified stuff, lots of fun.
