Anybody interested in ordering a 970 kit???
« on: February 02, 2007, 03:18:44 PM »
Was talking to a guy at Arias. 600.00 for pistons, rings, pins and c clips....any compression ratio. These would be custom made....3 sets and the price goes down. You would still need sleeves and head/base gaskets. I didn't say it was cheap but at least they would be more modern.

That is about the going rate for custom pistons.  You can remachine used Kawasaki Z1 sleeves to fit.  You will certainly need rods.

All set on the rods. I have the dimensions for the sleeves...either LA Sleeves or Advanced can custom make them. I'm not really fond of Arias but they used to make these pistons and don't need dome dimensions, relief placement etc. I'm sure they would use up to date material as well so you don't need an inch of skirt to wall clearance. I'm contemplating here ;)

Mike,

Will they give you a firm price for 3 sets? At what point might they lower the price even further? PM me if you need to.

I'm curious if they all need to be the same.

If so what C/R were you thinking of Mreick?

I was thinking of 10:25 dome so I could deck the cylinder to 0. It would go about 10:5 in the end with head surfacing and the decking. I'd use a 78 head I have. the chamber is better though larger. Christ... I'd do all sorts of measuring before I put it together

I know that LA Sleeve has a part number for that sleeve, but are youi aware that their sleeves can now run close to $70.00 ea. Advanced is even more.  The 70 mm piston in a Z1 Kaw was a very popular mod and they held up well bored that big. There must be thousands of them out there that have been removed from blocks to make really big motors. I am sure we must have a bunch. About an hour on the lathe and you have big bore Honda sleeves.

I run  Arias Pistons in my GS 2 valve motor in the order of 840 cc and had had plenty of  "front tire in the air and the back end kicks out fun"
