1976 750K Clutch Engagement
« on: November 24, 2019, 05:41:51 AM »
I have seen many write ups on this topic but nothing stating this is a normal condition.  The clutch does not engage until the clutch lever is almost all the way out.  I would expect it to begin pulling the bike much sooner.  Is this something that I am going to have to get used to or have you guys been able to do something to get clutch to engage and pull sooner?  I have adjusted the cable per the manual.  I do hear a clutch "rattle" in neutral which goes away when i pull in the clutch; not sure if this is related or not.  Cable appears to move smoothly.

Have u adjusted the engine end of cable linkage? Afterwards adjust lever end to where u like it to began pulling. Rattle probably a worn or loose basket. (Kinda normal on old bikes).

Yes, I have made the adjustment under the clutch cover

Afterwards adjust lever end to where u like it to began pulling.
By tightening the cable?  I don't understand how this adjust is going to begin pulling sooner but I will try it.

Rattle probably a worn or loose basket. (Kinda normal on old bikes).
New basket?  I though I read something about a disc with springs in it that would eliminate this noise.

the clutch on my bike 750K6 engages on the late side too.  keep working on your adjustments at the case and at the lever to find what works for you.  could your plates and springs be worn?  in my opinion type and age of oil is a factor too.

Both my CB750 engage late. K6 vs K2.
That's how they work. Most important they engage, can do it smoothly and have a play down the clutch lever out thru clutch cover, cold as warm.

Lever on handle bar need a small play too which change when warm and adjusted when cold.

Easy to enter a never ending clutch play on handle bar adjustment loop while riding ;)

Have you adjusted the clutch lifter as well as the cable?

If you’re referring to the locknut and screw under the cover, yes. Just like the manual says to.

Looks like this is considered normal, so I guess I’m going to have to accept it the way it is.

Put a tad more slack in the lever end. I like bout 2 nickels. They also make levers that place grip end closer to the grips.
