MotoGP™ Class cancelled at the Grand Prix of Qatar

Due to Qatar travel restrictions brought into force affecting passengers from Italy (amongst other countries), the premier class will not race at Losail

FIM, IRTA and Dorna regret to announce the cancellation of all MotoGP™ class sessions at the Grand Prix of Qatar, including the race.

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has resulted in Qatar travel restrictions being brought into force that affect passengers from Italy, amongst other countries. As of today, all passengers arriving at Doha on direct flights from Italy, or having been in Italy in the past 2 weeks, will be taken straight to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days. Italy clearly plays a vital role in the Championship and in the MotoGP™ class – both on track and off – and therefore the decision has been taken to cancel premier class competition.

As the teams and riders of the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes were already in Qatar for the three-day official test at Losail International Circuit earlier this week, the races of both categories will be possible. The lightweight and intermediate classes will therefore compete in their season opener from the 6th to 8th March. The same will apply to the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, which will have two races during the Qatar Grand Prix as originally planned. Stay tuned for a revised schedule.

Sorry to hear this. We are close to cancelling 12 days in Bali. Just don't want to go through too many airports for starters.

Brent, wish cancelled motogp were the worst of it, or even the virus itself.... it's the economic downturn that's really scary. Like many others, the company i work for has a large footprint in China and is already affected.

I live in Tokyo, they cancelled school for the month of March.
My 1st grade son is now attending class virtually but it requires a lot of parental guidance.
I't's going to be a long month....

thailand gp is cancelled now too and USA has blocked all flights from northern italy.... i.e. Yamaha, Ducati & Aprilia teams HQs blocked, so even Austin is at very high risk

I understand your point TG, as well as the reality Kevin faces. This otherwise insignificant virus has the world on it's heels.

I was reading last night how the Honda hater, conspiracy theorists expect this is a deal between Dorna & Honda to delay the season start to allow Honda the chance to catch back up with handling issues on the 2020 bike they have faced in testing, as well as allow MM more time to heal! It takes all kinds.

This will be a stay home year. Riding my bikes and if any vacation travel is needed, maybe tent on a camping within 500km.

I came back from the Canarian island Tenerife January 21 not too long before a German dude arrived thru the airport on that island infected by the virus. Not long after an Italian felt bad on a hotel on Tenerife so they closed the hotel with 1000 persons in quarantine for 2 weeks.

No good idea to get stucked somewhere due to ONE infected person closing the place not letting anyimone in or out.

Cruiser ships...no thank you for the next 10 years.
The virus factory in China is probably the manufacturer for the 1918 spanish flu according to later years investigations. See wikipedia.

The bad thing with this bat virus variant is the time a person can infect others before feeling sick. 2-3 weeks, maybe more.
You cannot trust specific groups that might infect themselves to spread the virus to others to get a place in paradise.... I read people in Iran has done it. Soon elsewhere.

All face respirator masks class ffp3 are out of stock everywhere.

I guess people commuting in buses, trains etc should avoid close contact with others. Own car, bicycle, walk or motorcycle is the safer alternative the future year or more. Or work from home where possible.

Some of us in Mexico City have switched from Corona to Tecate as a precaution. Mezcal still works too.

A colleague asked me if I would start sharing an uber with her to work instead of taking public transit, as we both do. I replied that we live in a city of 25 million and there is one case -- a man who just returned from Italy. I'm travelling internationally twice in March, including Cuba and the US, and am not particularly worried at this point. I wash my hands more and try not to touch my face; that's about it.

If I was signed up for a cruise, however, I might see things differently.

@750deepsouth, I work and travel to Indonesia pretty frequently, and have been following the news there. While Indonesia claims there are no cases, I imagine that there are and they are just unreported due to lack of coordination, an inability to properly diagnose, etc., especially since there is a lot of travel between China and Indonesia. That being said, you would probably be fine and the odds are super slim that you would encounter anything. Bali is such an amazing place it would be a shame not to see it.

Also, I was planning a long roadtrip to Texas but was holding off before booking anything. Was really looking forward to attending motoGP this season, plus a Bruins game in Carolina, and the Barber Museum.

That may all go out the window at this point. I guess time will tell.

Thanks - daughter and young family, two <5yr olds, were coming with us and they have become very twitchy, although it's us older folk that are at risk ... it's not so much the (fairly) low risk of getting the virus, it's the risk of getting caught up in a lock-down or quarantine period that's the problem. Would make running my business very difficult and costly. I can spare 10 days but not two weeks, or more. I think the economic consequences are going to be heavy, tripping the world up at least as bad as 2008 ... or worse

I'm wondering where you heard that? Worrying may not help anything, but ignoring this GLOBAL CRISIS is not a good idea. IMHO.

Would be a shame if Austin MotoGP is cancelled, COTA is less than an hour away and a great track.

My sister had a trip to Italy booked, but she also had travel insurance. Hopefully it will cover her, as it seems travel insurance doesn't cover all cases the same?

My Son is stuck in Germany because the airline he was flying with have gone into receivership, they were in a bad way but this virus has made them done for.

Sam a lot of people are going to face work disruptions & worse, because of the travel restrictions & accompanying supply chain issues. F1's opening races are in jeopardy (Ferrari & other Italian based teams).
