This is the answer. Always have and use the manual.
With the front axle, a wrench on each side should do it, be sure you use one that proprely fits the flats on both the axle and nut.
For the bearings, carefully drill the punch marks, and use a correctly size spanner wrench to remove the retainer ring. If you don't get the punches out, you can destroy the threads.
