SHE LIVES!!!

Attempted to start her yesterday morning....that was a joke.  That 96" engine needs a REAL GOOD battery, it wasn't full but was blinking green....lol.  When it hit compression the starter just stalled, another 2 hours on the charger and she fired right off.

The engine sounds great, no noises or smoke, and after a little fussin with the carb she settled into a nice "potato-potato" cadence at 750 rpm.  I have a light click or knock in the primary around the clutch basket area so that has to come back apart for some lookin.

The Badlands module that came with the switches that was in "working" condition was garbage....I HATE LIARS! New one shipped today so my blinkers should be in working order next week.   All in all I'm pretty stoked with her, gotta get that noise figured though, I wanta go for a ride.

That's great news! Best of luck on an easy ID/fix once you get a look in the clutch area.

Yes, yes it does....lol.  I had to find one on the internet.

Shouldn't be a big deal (I hope) it didn't make any noise before it came apart.....lol, but then it was put together wrong too.

Red               12v+
Black             Ground
Violet             Left 12v input
Brown            Right 12v input
Yellow            Right output
Grey              Left output

I just have a photo of an instruction page, but I hear that if the ground isn't good, it will blow the module.

Hope this helps

I have tapped into the input wires,I think this still makes use of the stock wiring ,I think I have to just take the input wires to the module, instead of tapping into the wire?

I think the main issue with a SOHC is that the flasher is before the switch, where as on an HD it's after, cause there were required to have hazards.

If you wire out the flasher, it should be pretty easy from there.

What year?  Should be pretty straight forward, HD's wiring is pretty simple.

That's possible, not real hip on Sportsters.  Mine has no ground on the front blinkers, it's done through the housing.

Got my new Badlands module and installed it today.....YEAH, I have blinkers again.  Still need to sort out the noise in the clutch area and plan on getting started on that today.

Yes you have to, my 87 had 2 flashers.  1 for the blinkers and 1 for the 4-way.  I don't have a wire diag for a sporty, but let me do a little research....I'll get back to ya.   ;D

Figured it out.....your dash directional indicator is screwing you.....lol.  It get it's power from the switch that's activated and gets the ground from the other one that's not.  It's doable but there's a bit of rewiring to be done.  If you want to go farther.....I'll give you a blow by blow on how.

yes it flashes when either signal is pushed, and the flasher is tied to both sides,so it seems with stock wiring you cant wire them independent of each other, like the badlands diagram.pm me with your solution,my wiring has not been played with, you have a real nice bike there!bill

I'll get a "plan-o-gram" together today for ya, you'll need a couple of diodes for the indicator to still work also.   Is your Badlands module the newer one with Orange as 12v+?  The new one I got was Orange, the old one that was trash was Red.

Hey Brother, how's this project working out? I hope all is well and you're riding instead of typing.

Last I knew you had a new noise in the clutch somewhere but then started talking about wiring directional....

Oh Jeez, still hot out huh? https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=33.685&lon=-117.1539#.X1UeX_kpCyU

Up here it's getting cooler but I've just changed jobs and when I'm not on call I just want to be as lazy as possible, no progress on my bikes to report.

Between my MIL, the heat, ash storms, fires, and horrific air quality.....today wasn't to bad.   I finally got to do an "extended" run session today.  Let her run for 20 minutes with a fan.  I have to say that this is the nosiest engine cold that I've ever owned.

the results........

It's always something to keep us from doing what we most want to, isn't it?

Bike looks and sounds good and strong, you've done a heck of a job.
