Hello from Atlanta 1976 CB750
« on: February 13, 2007, 11:14:49 AM »
Hello.  I've been trying to get a SOHC Honda for a while.  I finally found this one for a reasonable price.  I also have a stella scooter that I like to play on.  I found this site from doug id on the stella forums.  I was a bit inspired by his project, although I'm beginning to doubt his "noob"  status.  Well, my bike is running, but I'm tempted to mess with it.  I know I want a new paint job, but another side of me wants to take it completely apart and do something drastic.  I guess it is just the nature of man.  Anyway, I look forward to chatting and the resources here are amazing.  If anyone would like to tempt me with ideas on what to do to this thing, go right ahead.

Welcome and nice bike (clean engine) and some interesting parts - looks like the bike has had a few parts changed on it over the years - like the chrome idiot light cluster, the seat looks to be in good shape - looks like a K2 seat and the gauges are unfaded and good condition. Rear wheel is not stock (looks like a 16`) and the front wheel also looks to have been changed - is that aluminum rims? Front fender is from a later model etc ect...hey as long as it runs well thats the important thing!

have fun with it and keep us updated on any changes.
cheers
Andy

Howdy and welcome pardner :D!!!
Enjoy it for the season (heck the season down south is wide open almost every month!) and find out what you have and what you are up against. Dr. Andy's keen eye did pick up some good details on the changes. It looks good, ride it hard and have some fun. It will present you with options soon enough. I would keep the side covers for giggles... ;D

Yeah, I've thought about keeping the sidecovers for comedic effect.  The tank was actually painted the same, but I traded the guy for a red one.  (i don't know if the pics do it justice, but the colors are more purple and pink....a little embarrassing)  I've thought of returning it somewhat to stock, but all options are open.  When I picked it up, I assumed the most important thing was a good running bike, I hope that I was not mistaken.  I have put almost 1000 miles on it, and it's still running great.  It rides great.  The brakes squeak to hell and back, and I can barely stand up when stopped (i'm kinda short), but soooo far, it's been a blast.  (and i'm very pleased with the price)  I'm a research nerd, sooo it probably won't take toooo long before I start getting a clearer picture with what I want to do to it.  One of my main goals with this bike is to work on it myself.  Right now I'm trying to find some good shop manuals and restoration books.  But it seems as if a lot of my research will be done right here!!!  ;)

Welcome HotLanta. Nice catch. There's always something else you can do to a bike. Never ends. A couple simple things you can do to lengthen your legs are boots with thick soles or take the bike/seat to an upholstery shop and have them trim the seat height off a little and put a little taper at the top to narrow it slightly. Considering you've put 1000 miles on it, I'd say you found a keeper. Watch the brake squeak. It may be nothing but an annoyance that you have to put up with but perhaps there is an issue. Looks like anyone headed to Daytona on I-75 has a stop next year.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

It's funny that you mention Daytona.  My friend has a house there and that is where I put a lot of my miles on.  I didn't drive it there, but it was fun riding it around the city.  Beautiful!!!  BTW.  These things are heavy as hell.  Trying to get this thing into the bed of a big truck is quite a task.

Yup! once you get the fever (or are unlucky enough to own the truck!) the loading becomes routine. You will be wiser when you pick up the next one. And it will come, these bikes attract each other like magnets. ;D

Thank you kind sir.  I've already ordered a manual, but I'm thinking about sending it back.  There are just too many readily available resources on the net for FREE!!!   8)

Well....I'm already on bike number two.  This was just too good to pass up.  Another 1976, but this one is a CB550.  It's all original, until you tell me otherwise (except for the pipes).  It has the owner's manual and everything  It has about 8,500 original miles.  I only took pics of the left side, but the right side looks just as good.  I'm loving it.

Yeah, even though I would rather have the stock pipes, the 4-2's that are on there are pretty sweet.

Just saying hi guys and introducing myself. I bought iamnotacowboy's 750 from him yesterday. However, I must say - he looks just like a cowboy in person. Malboro man even, but I digress. The 750 is in tip top running shape. After I got home with it yesterday and unloaded - did a quick once over and took her out for our maiden voyage together. Must say - Ton Up is quite easy to find. I'm more partial to brit bikes, but have been hangerin for a CB for a couple years now - just couldn't find anything around here that tripped my trigger like this one and I think me cowboy there made a fair deal on the price.

The plan? Well - doug id's build is definitely an inspiration for what I was wanting to do in the first place. It'll be 'bonafide-ed' some enough - waiting to move into the new house by the end of March - so I'll wait to start in on it til she's in the new garage. I seriously doubt I'll be doing a full disassembly - just some minor changes and ride the snot out her. Yeah, that's the plan.

cowboy, good luck with your 550, it's a beauty.

I'm glad you're enjoying the bike.  I think the 750 was just a bit too much for me in this stage of my life.  That thing is quick!  Welcome to the site.  There are a TON of resources.  Make sure to keep us posted on the progress.  I think I'll go fire up the 550 now....I love that thing.
