Topic: New CB550 Owner

Just bought a ‘77 CB550 from a friend. I’ve owned a couple of CB’s in the past but never a 4 cylinder. This one is pretty far from original and needs a little TLC.

It’s not the worst looking bike but just not to my taste. The plan is to cafe racer it.
It would have been nice to have restored it to original but parts don’t seem that available.

What OEM parts arent available?   I've never had an issue finding a part, some times it takes time, but between CL, eBay and this forum, nearly every part is out there.

I’ve noticed there’s a lot more available from America. I’m in the UK and It does seem limited. I might have to spend more time looking

Ive sourced speedometer/rev counter / side panels / etc from the states as mine 1975 K is USA spec , no bother . Loads of stuff on David Silver and reliable BUT beware , they add on VAT as well as postage .

Bit of an update. A few new parts fitted. Just got my wheels back from the builder. 18” rims front and rear now in place of the 19”+16” that were on and new tyres.

Decided I had to have a delkevic exhaust system. Love the style of this and it sounds really nice.

I’ve cut the modified rear end off and started from scratch.

Managed to source what I believe is a CB350 tank. It fits quite nicely. Just sprayed this with aerosols for now until I’m sure I’m happy with it. Also spayed the front headlight until I can find one I like.

Next job it to make a seat base ready to send to the upholsterer and tidy the electrics up. Thinking about fitting a lithium battery so this can be hidden somewhere out of sight.

Wow. The Previous Owner had really mucked up the original rear portion of the frame to make at softail bobber.
